Alcazar's 'Divinity' Promises Dystopian Thrill & Star Studded Power Play
Writer-director Eddie Alcazar's latest offering, a dystopian thriller named 'Divinity', is all set to create ripples across the entertainment industry with an enviable star-cast comprising Stephen Dorff, Bella Thorne, and Scott Bakula. In an essential nod to the film's acclaim, it has secured a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement. The agreement signing implies that the cast members can now freely promote the film's upcoming theatrical debut. Excitingly, the film is scheduled to premiere at Regal Union Square, New York, on October 13th, followed by an LA release on October 20th. The movie will further broaden its horizon with a widespread expansion on November 3rd.
'Divinity', a black-and-white indie presented in association with Utopia and Sumerian, earned its critical laurels at the Sundance Film Festival's NEXT section earlier this year. The fantastical drama, set in a peculiar human world, unfolds a mesmerizing tale of a dedicated scientist Sterling Pierce (Scott Bakula). As the narrative unwinds, we witness Pierce's relentless pursuit of immortality that culminates in a revolutionary serum named 'Divinity.' Moreover, the film's production sees the collaborative efforts of Alcazar himself and Javier Lovato, Raphael Gindre, and Johnny Starke.
As a surprising twist takes center stage, the narrative brings in Jaxxon Pierce (Stephen Dorff), Sterling's son. As the new proprietor of 'Divinity,' the plot thickens with Jaxxon's manipulation of the initially sincere dream. This influence distorts societal structure on this desolate planet, leading to an enigmatic power spectacle centered around the drug 'Divinity.'
The story then introduces two enigmatic brothers (portrayed by Moises Arias and Jason Genao), aiming to abduct the influential Jaxxon. Accompanied by a beguiling woman Nikita (Karrueche Tran), they embark a journey set towards the coveted concept of immortality.
Reflecting on his association with 'Divinity,' Stephen Dorff stated his fondness for Alcazar's direction that drew him to the project. Bella Thorne recalled her engaging experiences on the "very unorthodox set," while Karrueche Tran expressed her anticipation for the audience's numerous interpretations of the themes of death, rebirth, and the afterlife.
There, now you've got the facts. But facts without flavor are like popcorn without butter - edible, but why would you want it?
Let me tell you, Alcazar works with a palette that could out-color a rainbow - and that's in black and white. His dystopian musings come at a time when reality feels half a step away from a 'Black Mirror' episode. His grasp of storytelling, mixed with the star-studded cast, could make 'Divinity' the next conversation piece at your socially distanced, masked-up watercooler.
Stephen Dorff as Jaxxon Pierce is some hammerhead casting as he takes the reigns of his father's dream, applying a fresh coating of sinister Greed-is-Good grit. And as for our mysterious brothers played by Arias and Genao, one word: explosive. You can almost smell the intrigue brewing, right?
What has me intrigued is the "very unorthodox set" that Bella Thorne was enchanted by. Unorthodox is Hollywood speak for "set stories we may never hear" - which is, of course, red meat for gossip hounds like yours truly.
My advice? Keep an eye on this one. Between the labyrinthine plotline, celebrity power, and Alcazar's atypical vision, 'Divinity' could take us on an exhilarating rollercoaster ride in the land of celluloid. In a year that has given us cinematic lemons, 'Divinity' could well be the lemonade we were waiting for. Until it hits the theaters, I'll be here, warming up the popcorn because, come October, we could be in for a real treat.
