Baldwin, Dorff Headline in Indie Thriller 'Cold Deck'

A. Prentice

Oscar-nominated actor Alec Baldwin and Stephen Dorff, known for his role in Blade, are headlining the independent film Cold Deck, according to exclusive news obtained by Deadline. The movie, helmed by director Brian Skiba and producers Corey Large and Eric Bromberg, wrapped up production before the SAG-AFTRA strike that began on July 14.

Joe Perruccio penned the script for Cold Deck, setting an adrenaline-pumping narrative about a team of loggers who unexpectedly stumble upon a meth cook site hidden deep within a forest. With this discovery, the loggers abruptly find themselves in a dangerous fight for survival, pursued relentlessly by a ruthless drug cartel.

The film's funding is courtesy of 30 Enterprises and Chinese financier Pink308, granted from a $50M film fund dedicated to producing eight to ten feature films per year. The executive producer team includes Kirk Shaw, Stephanie Rennie, Ram Getz, Greg Meyer, and Michael Mortensen.

Cold Deck boasts an impressive supporting cast consisting of Clive Standen (known for his roles in Vikings, and the movie Everest), Tom Welling (Clark Kent in Smallville), Jesse Metcalfe (the Fortress franchise with Bruce Willis, Christmas Under the Stars), Lochlyn Munro (Riverdale) and Lucy Martin (Vikings).

As of this spring, Baldwin completed filming a western in Montana. He was previously cleared of charges in connection with the Rust shooting that happened in April. Commendably, the film was dedicated to slain DP Halyna Hutchins. Large, one of the prominent names behind Cold Deck, boasts a hefty producing portfolio with several acclaimed Willis movies such as Apex, Breach, Deadlock, American Siege, and Vendetta under his belt.

Now, shifting gears to peel away the official jargon and delve deeper into what we could call 'Hollywood: Behind the Lens'.

Can we just pause and appreciate the power duo of Alec Baldwin and Stephen Dorff headlining this indie feature? If the premise of loggers battling drug cartels didn't grab your attention, that casting certainly should. The contrast between Baldwin's venerable, Oscar-nominated presence and Dorff's memorable action performances seems primed to deliver a riveting on-screen dynamic. After all, two leading men are better than one, right?

And then there's the broader ensemble of talent. The cast offers a potpourri of badass Vikings, superhero alter-egos, and even some Riverdale small-town mystery. Hold onto your popcorn, folks, because this movie is packing a serious punch.

Yet, life is often stranger than fiction. This film was shot pre-SAG-AFTRA strike, making it a piece of cinematic history, showcasing what Hollywood could pull off before its workers rallied for better conditions. It adds an extra layer of context to the story that's worth considering as we all head to the theaters or streaming platforms to watch it unfold.

Let's also take a moment to acknowledge the hard work and dedication put forth by Alec Baldwin. Despite the tragic circumstances surrounding the Rust shooting, it's pleasing to see him make a comeback in his underlying passion - acting. It not only screams resilience, but also demonstrates the comforting reality that art, storytelling, and the magic of Hollywood cinema persist through difficult times.

This is not just a news piece about another Hollywood film in the pipeline; it's a testament to the resilience and defiance embedded within the very DNA of the industry. And if the film captures even a fraction of that spirit, we're all in for a treat.
