Greta Gerwig, Margot Robbie, and a host of talent are reeling in gusts of congratulations as the illustrious Barbie movie breaches the $1B global box office mark in its third week of release. As anticipated, the cinematic juggernaut reached this victorious milestone, sparking global fascination and admiration.

As of Sunday, the global box office intake has reportedly amassed an impressive $1.031B, including an international box office yield of approximately $572.1M. Moreover, in the film's grand glimmer of success, Gerwig attains another noteworthy accolade, becoming the first woman to cross the billion-dollar benchmark as a solo director.

Warner Bros' Jeff Goldstein, President of Domestic Distribution, and Andrew Cripps, President of International Distribution, articulated their sheer enthusiasm for the film's unprecedented success. They emphasized the film's universal appeal, attributing its triumph principally to the exceptional creative direction of Greta Gerwig, who seamlessly and inventively brought the timeless icon Barbie and her world to life.

The third weekend box office earnings showed significant resilience for Barbie, drawing in about $74M from about 20,335 screens in 69 international markets, reflecting a mere 41% decrease from the previous frame. Barbie also demonstrated dominance across multiple markets, fiercely clutching the number one ranking in 35 markets and securing the spot as the 2nd largest studio film of 2023.

Furthermore, domestically, the Barbie film trumps every other U.S. movie this year in 19 markets, including Italy, the UK, Brazil, and Australia. In commendation of Warner Bros, the film notably represents the biggest WB title ever in 12 markets, including Brazil, Australia, and Poland.

In navigating her way beyond $1B, Barbie outperforms a litany of major releases, including Fast X, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice, amongst others.

Now, let's take a moment to ruminate on the cunning meld of glamor and shrewdness that is the Barbie phenomenon. Who would have thought that a figurine, primarily relegated to the handbags of wide-eyed children and eponymous toy chests, could command world-wide theaters with such dauntless charisma?

Indeed, this Barbie is far from child's play, and dare I say, her global takeover is as head-turning as her dazzling pink fashions. The movie has illuminated Barbie in a light of grit and emotional depth, with humor sprinkled conveniently throughout. This achievement is undeniably a testament to Greta Gerwig's genius, who emerged from behind the camera to paint Barbie not just as a doll but a symbol of resilience and aspiration.

While a plastic-edged celebration is certainly in order, it's worth noting that Barbie's skyrocketing success sings more than just a global box office triumph. It holds a mirror to the face of an industry long dominated by men, with Greta Gerwig glistening at the helm. So here's to Barbie - shaking up the cinematic universe, one sequin at a time.

Long live the queen of Pink. And if I may borrow from Barbie's classic catchphrase: "Life in plastic? It's fantastic!" - especially when it comes with the sweet glitz of a global billion on top.
