Bautista and Momoa Unite for Buddy Action Comedy 'The Wrecking Crew' under MGM

Dave Bautista, known for his role in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, and Jason Momoa of Aquaman fame have joined forces with Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto on a new project titled The Wrecking Crew. According to Deadline, this buddy action comedy has been set up at MGM. Insiders report that Bautista and Momoa were in talks for this film, penned by Warrior creator Jonathan Tropper, before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Tropper's contract was negotiated and finalized, with his script submitted before the inception of the WGA strike that began in early May. Details about the plot are currently kept under wraps. It's known that both Bautista and Momoa successfully pitched the story to MGM after a four-bidder conflict last fall. Jeffrey Fierson, a collaborator of Momoa on the Netflix/Discovery Canada series Frontier, is set to produce the film.

This year, audiences saw Bautista in M. Night Shyamalan's Knock at the Cabin and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, marking the end of his MCU journey as Drax the Destroyer. Part of the ensemble in Brittany Snow's directorial debut Parachute, which premiered at SXSW this year, the actor will also be seen in Dune: Part Two, scheduled for release on November 3.

Like Bautista, Momoa continues to make waves in the entertainment industry. Notably, he played the villain Dante in Universal's Fast X and will be appearing in the eagerly anticipated Warner Bros' sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, set to be released on December 20. Momoa is also devoting time to several other projects such as Apple TV+'s historical drama series Chief of War, Warner Bros' Minecraft, and Legendary's hybrid live-action/animated feature, Animal Friends.

Soto, fresh from his director role on the successful Blue Beetle: lauded as the first DC movie led by a Latino superhero, continues to impress with these and other projects such as Max's docuseries Menudo: Forever Young and drama Charm City Kings. These updates about The Wrecking Crew were initially brought to light by The Wrap.

Alright, now that we've cleaned the slate with facts, let's talk shop.

Hollywood sensations Bautista and Momoa are not just teaming up; they are forming a sizzling, action-packed dream team. This power duo, each bringing a unique flavor of charisma to the silver screen, gracing a comedy action flick? That’s like a superhero crossover, but with an lighthearted twist and apparently, no capes.

One might even say that these two are like the exotic merger of an earthy stout beer (Bautista) and a tangy tropical cocktail (Momoa) at the coolest Hollywood Dynamics-approved pub. Both are cool, unique, and delectably enjoyable on their own, but together? That's a party you don’t want to miss.

Jonathan Tropper, script and TV series God, has a track record for writing eloquent symbols of empowered masculinity (see: Warrior). Pair that with Soto's knack for compelling storytelling, and we have a "wrecking crew" indeed. Although the plot details are dressed snuggly under a cover of secrecy, I'd bet my autograph collection that The Wrecking Crew is set to be pulling proverbial buildings down with wit, strength, and more than a handful of heart.

And as for MGM, they’ve placed a calculated bet on this four-bidder battle. With a project boasting heavy hitters like Momoa, Bautista, and Soto, it’s a flutter that's not about winning the gamble, but a question of just how much they’ll win by!

The Wrecking Crew, we await your chaos - and laughter. Roll those cameras and let the good times wreck and roll!
