Irish actor Cillian Murphy, popularly known for his prominent role as Tommy Shelby in the recent phenomenon "Peaky Blinders", takes centre stage in yet another blockbuster: Christopher Nolan's "Oppenheimer". The Peaky Blinders fraternity has hailed Murphy's performance in the globally successful film over its social media platforms. The movie's soaring popularity has led it to rake in over $400M in less than two weeks since its premiere.

The official Peaky Blinders account applauded the actor’s virtuoso performance: “Cillian, from the moment you donned Tommy’s cap it was clear that you are at the top of your craft. Your performance as Oppenheimer is magnificent.” Recognising the caliber of Murphy's portrayal, Peaky Blinder’s executive producer Caryn Mandabach praised the actor's profound dedication in an interview with Deadline: "He truly deserves all love from people who know him best."

Murphy’s portrayal of the iconic physicist J Robert Oppenheimer is being lauded across multiple quarters. Deadline's Pete Hammond, in his review, lauded him for perfectly representing the intricacies of the complex character, stating that “[Murphy] captures all the contradictions of this brilliant, tortured, and complicated man". The film has been labelled as "the most important motion picture of 2023, and maybe far beyond."

Distinctively outpacing expectations, Universal's Oppenheimer commenced its overseas release on July 19th, amassing an impressive $180.4M worldwide on its initial launch alone. The artistic masterpiece continues to enjoy substantial turnovers, and as of this past Sunday, has grossed over $400M globally. The box office statistics further indicate a total international figure of $255.5M as of Tuesday, cumulatively leading to a worldwide reach of $443.9M.

Completing an illustrious near-decade tenure with the popular TV series Peaky Blinders last year, Murphy managed to score his first BAFTA nomination. Murphy, also serving as an executive producer for the series, played a significant part in developing the globally popular saga.

Adding to his trophy shelf, Cillian Murphy is once again proving that he’s not just another string in Hollywood’s bow. Tommy Shelby might have retired his cap, but Murphy is far from taking his final bow.

Murphy's skills as an actor truly shine as he navigates effortlessly from the gritty industrial streets of Birmingham to the shimmering world of Oppenheimer's high-stakes science. His talent of morphing into the skin of any character, from the troubled gangster to the tormented physicist, is simply jaw-dropping. Let's just say if Hollywood had a Nobel Prize, Cillian Murphy would be a strong contender.

Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” with Murphy in the titular role, has the world hooked yet again, flaring up a cinematic nuclear reaction that shows no signs of decay anytime soon. Much like the half-life of a radioactive element, Murphy's star power only seems to last longer, further cementing his position in Hollywood's hall of fame.

Across the vast expanse of Murphy's diverse roles, it's clear that his career is no ‘Peaky' business. It’s a steady, ever-climbing trajectory that, to use a timely physics metaphor, seems to resist any form of Newton’s gravitational pull.

To quote Murphy's humble response prior the SAG-AFTRA strike regarding Peaky Blinder's unexpected fame, "It’s kind of staggering how popular the thing is still… It means that we did something good." Perhaps it's the mélange of complex characters he's brought to life that makes Murphy's journey so successful, or perhaps it's just the simple fact that wherever Cillian goes, we follow. Because let's face it, when it comes to solid, engaging storytelling, Murphy's acting is certainly not just a 'flash in the pan'.
