Donde Queda Hollywood

Addison Smith

As more studios begin to close down, less opportunities arise for aspiring actors to showcase their talents. This can be very discouraging for those who want to pursue acting as a career. It is important to remain positive and look forward to things coming up so that you do not give up.

There are many ways to get into the film industry aside from being an already-known name. You do not need to be famous to make a successful career in this field. Many people have gone before you had to learn how to connect with others, negotiate, use time efficiently, and deal with conflict effectively before getting involved in filmmaking.

This article will talk about some of the best cities to try your hand at becoming a filmmaker or working as an actor in the movie business. Starting off as an extra or a production assistant may be one’s first choice if they are looking to gain experience within the movie industry. Both positions require strong communication skills and teamwork.

Los Angeles, California

As we mentioned earlier, filming has shifted away from New York and London to other parts of the world. This is due to many reasons, one being that tax incentives are now available in most countries to draw filmmakers. Another reason is that with the rise of online streaming services like Netflix, there’s less need for theaters as a platform.

There have also been reports of rising costs of production in certain areas which make it more feasible to shoot elsewhere. All these factors contribute to making shooting here no longer a necessity.

This doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t still make money working in this area! It’s just becoming increasingly difficult to do so without having some kind of professional on-camera talent or knowledge of the media industry.

But don’t worry, because we're here to help! In fact, we're going to take things one step further by breaking down all the different types of jobs there are in film (and TV). We'll talk about what each job means, how to get them, and where you can find them if you're looking to break into the business.

Las Vegas, Nevada

In recent years, the movie industry has largely moved out of Los Angeles due to two main reasons. The first is that filming in L.A. requires expensive permits that can be very difficult to get.

The second reason is that LA is just too crowded. There’s always something happening somewhere so it’s hard to find a quiet spot to work without being interrupted.

These are important parts of making movies, so most studios will pay a premium to have access to such places. As a result, there’s a lot of competition for limited space, which only adds more pressure.

This isn’t good if you want to make a decent living as an artist. If you’re trying to do your best work, you need time and space to focus, not look up every few minutes to see who else is around.

Las Vegas fits this description perfectly. Even though there’s a constant stream of people coming and going, it’s still relatively easy to find a place to work alone or with little interruption.

It also costs less than anywhere in America except maybe New York City.

New York, New York

The city that never sleeps is known for its hustle and bustling energy. There are always things to do here, something new every day. It also has some of the highest taxes in the country which can be very annoying if you have a large income.

Density is another factor that makes this city special. A small town feeling with big cities amenities like restaurants, movie theaters, shopping, and entertainment opportunities.

Hollywood loves to tout the diversity of cultures it has around it, but sometimes people get stereotyped by what area they come from.

A lot of stereotypes about New Yorkers arise due to the media coverage and perception of popular neighborhoods. People usually associate expensive fashion and rich lifestyles with Broadway and Upper East Side areas.

These wealthy enclaves are great, but there’s so much more to the city! Check out our list of ways to love yourself even when you don’t feel like it. These will hopefully inspire you to begin changing your own life - not just for today, but for tomorrow as well.

London, England

As we mentioned earlier, there are several reasons why acting is an expensive career to pursue. The cost of living in major cities such as New York or Londres can easily add up quickly if you aren’t careful with your spending.

But while it may be hard to afford a place to live in those locations, one city that most actors don’t know about is actually much more affordable. It’s also home to some of the biggest film festivals in the world, which play significant roles in shaping future careers for aspiring artists.

That city? None other than….London!

Location-focused filmmaking has been around since at least the early 20th century, when filmmakers would use location scouting trips to gather inspiration and research for their stories. More recently though, technology allows us to do things faster and smarter, so advanced production companies have adapted by incorporating lots of digital effects and computer graphics into their projects.

This article will talk mostly about the latter, but first let’s discuss what makes a good filming location.

Paris, France

As much as it pains me to say this, after eight years of trying, I have to admit that there’s no longer a place for you in Hollywood.

The movie business is changing faster than ever before, and larger corporations are taking over what used to be small studios with their blockbuster strategies. Studios like Universal and Disney own most of the blockbusters, making it hard for independent filmmakers to get exposure.

It’s also become increasingly difficult to make a living off of filmmaking unless you're very wealthy. Technology has made producing low-budget films easier, but expensive equipment and production costs still pose a problem.

And while the industry touts diversity as one of its biggest strengths, white men continue to dominate both the front office and back lot.

I know it can feel impossible to succeed at times, but don't give up. It's a tough job market out there right now, but people who want to direct movies can always find work. You just need to put in some effort into marketing yourself and never stop seeking employment.

Rome, Italy

The city of Rome has been hosting major film events for several years now. In fact, it was featured as a top filming destination in an article by Business Insider back in 2016. Since then, many more films have filmed in or around the Italian capital so this makes sense!

In addition to having beautiful landscapes and locations, Rome is known for its rich culture. There are plenty of things you can do here aside from watching a movie.

Rome boasts some of the best museums in all of Europe and they’re packed with treasures and stories. You could spend hours exploring every inch, not just of one building but of all five that make up the Art Museum of Roma.

The food here will surprise even the most experienced diner. A restaurant visit in Rome will always leave you happy and hungry.

There are also performing arts venues throughout the city which offer everything from opera to ballet. Many people consider these types of shows to be much better than cinema because of how beautifully executed they are.

It may sound like a cliché, but living in Rome really ‘makes your heart grow’. It’s a great place to call home and enjoy life.

Madrid, Spain

In a recent article for The Guardian, writer Grace MacLean discussed why she feels that London is becoming too expensive to live in as a millennial. She mentioned how expensive rents are and how difficult it can be to save money due to the high cost of living.

She then mentioned another major city that seems to have forgotten what being a capital means- Madrid!

Why would you want to live somewhere with no significant monuments or landmarks? I know from experience that there’s nothing more depressing than going through an endless list of things to do at the park and finding out that nobody else was awake enough to come along.

There’s also something very satisfying about waking up next to the sounds of running water and exploring new parts of the city. It’s definitely not boring!

Another reason to consider moving to Madrid is the quality of life. You will find many people who share your passion for traveling and studying, which makes it much easier to connect with others.

And although it may sound cliché, but spending time outside helps clear your head and gives you motivation to keep working hard. Healthier breathing enhances self-confidence and can help dispel negative thoughts.

Barcelona, Spain

A lot of people talk about how expensive living in Los Angeles can get you- but what they fail to mention is that it’s also very difficult to live well in L.A..

If you don’t have lots of money to spend, there are few options beyond a couple of large scale restaurants or a movie theater.

Not only are most places overpriced, but good food and great entertainment can be hard to find unless you know someone.

Fortunately for those who value their personal growth, there are many beautiful cities with rich cultures where one can enjoy spending time reading, studying, or just relaxing.

Many people refer to these as ‘retreats’ because of this, and they’re certainly worth it if you need some down time after work or family obligations.

There’s no reason why you can’t combine your love of traveling with your quest to grow spiritually.
