EverWonder, Meadowlark to Document Evert-Navratilova Tennis Rivalry

A. Prentice

EverWonder Studio has announced that their first project will be a collaboration with Meadowlark Media on a feature-length documentary. The documentary will explore the compelling and unique relationship between tennis legends Chris Evert and Martina Navratilova. In addition to co-financing and co-producing the film, EverWonder Studio will also possess the rights to a possible scripted adaptation of the story in the future.

Veterans of one of sports history's most notable rivalries, both Evert and Navratilova have expressed their enthusiasm for the project. EverWonder and Meadowlark have committed themselves to provide new insights into the friendship of the two players, including the disclosure of unseen footage from their lives and careers.

The duo dominated women's tennis in the 70s and 80s, with Navratilova having a slight edge in total matches and Grand Slams won by their retirement point. Their intertwined journey includes memorable moments like their collective victory in the French Open women's doubles title in 1975 and their unforgettable match against each other in the 1985 French Open final. Now, their friendship and rivalry will be brought to light in yet another medium.

The forthcoming project will be overseen by a line-up of established executives, including Jeff Zucker of RedBird IMI, Ian Orefice, John Skipper, Deirdre Fenton, Jon Wertheim, Mary Greenham (NewsPresenters Media), and Lawrence Frankopan (StarWing Sports).

The recently established EverWonder Studio, backed by investment from RedBird IMI, will concentrate on the creation, production, and distribution of documentary content going forward.

Now, shall we step into my office of personal opinion? Grab a coffee and pull up a chair.

This documentary could be more than just a tale of two tennis titans. It could be a mirror held up to society, with the sporting rivalry of these two women symbolizing the constant tug and pull between competition and camaraderie. This narrative is as gripping as any Hollywood blockbuster and potentially even more impactful considering the real-world implications.

Evert and Navratilova - two names synonymous with both rivalry and unity, competition and friendship, on and off the court. The high stakes, the drama, the emotion - it has all the makings of an Oscar-worthy script. And who better to shed light on this nuanced relationship than EverWonder and Meadowlark, two studios known for their discerning storytelling?

The hint about the rights to a possible scripted adaptation only sweetens the deal here. After all, we've all seen the magic biopics can create at the box office (hello, "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "The Queen's Gambit"). I'd sign up for a front-row seat to a cinematic rendering of the Evert and Navratilova story.

With powerhouses like Zucker and Orefice behind the scenes, it's hard not to be excited about where this could lead. The phrase "true power of our lives and careers together" from Navratilova has left me with tingles.

So, tennis fans and friends, kick back and watch as EverWonder and Meadowlark serve up a fascinating new take on this enduring friendship and rivalry. And, for the uninitiated, brace yourselves for an inspiring ride filled with powerful backhands, incredible volley exchanges, and most importantly, a relationship as enduring and resilient as the sport itself.
