People always talk about how expensive living in New York City is, but they never tell you where all of that money goes! Most people assume that big business owners spend their money hosting events, giving speeches, and traveling for work. But what if we took away those things? What if we limited your spending to just basic needs like food, shelter, and health care?
It’s hard to imagine such a thing happening in Manhattan, at least not very seriously. After all, this city was built upon rich men with large fortunes, and there are still plenty of opportunities to make more money here.
But it’s easy to forget that not everyone has these resources- most people don’t. And while wealthy people can afford to spend money on experiences that average people cannot, they also enjoy many luxuries that cost much less.
This article will focus on one specific type of experience that rich people have - day to day free activities. It will discuss some ways to add these to your life, and then speak some truth about an event that got a lot of attention last year.
I’m talking about The Freedom Budget Diaries (TFFB) experiment. For twenty days, YouTube personality Marisa Garcia lived exclusively off of income she received for doing yoga classes. She paid her rent using the proceeds from one of her DVDs, and ate only foods that she or someone else could bring to a park and prepare themselves.
History of the Dutch in the US

The Netherlands has played an important role in American history, with large numbers of immigrants coming from the country. Since the Revolutionary War, many Americans are at least part Dutch!
The word America comes from the Nederlandse words Amerika meaning “the land of the american Indians”. Before Columbus discovered North America, there were very few people living here and it was inhabited by Native American tribes.
It wasn't until the 1600s when Europeans arrived and established settlements. There were French first, then Spanish, before the British took over the continent.
During this period, some groups of settlers made their way to what would become the United States. These included English colonists in present-day New England, German Lutherans in Pennsylvania, Swiss farmers in upstate New York, and so forth.
But one group of European migrants is especially famous within the USA - the ones that settled along the northern coast of America. They called themselves the 'Dutch'.
These people migrated to the area now known as the state of New Jersey back in the 17th century. Many more moved on to areas of the US that we know today like Florida or Texas.
They gave these regions their name because they came mostly from the Low Countries (Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg) and spoke the language called Flamenco which is similar to Dutch.
Famous Dutch in the US

The country has been home to many famous people from around the world, with several establishing strong roots here. Some of these immigrants have become very popular and well-known, while others remain relatively unknown.
Many Americans are probably not familiar with some of the more prominent Dutch who made their homes in the USA, however. While most did not necessarily live in America for long, they left behind significant legacies that still influence society today.
Whether it is through their works or lasting impacts, these individuals add value to our culture and heritage. In this article, you will learn about twelve such celebrities born in the Netherlands! Read on to find out more about them…
1. William Edward Burroughs - Author
William Edward Burroughs was an American author best known for his dark novels including Novellas like The Wild Boys and Solitary Confinement as well as his classic work, Naked Lunch.
He was born in the city of Leeuwarden, Limburg in the south west region of the Netherlands in 1898. His father worked at a chemical company and later took over management of the firm he grew up in, which had successful business ventures under his watch. He passed away when Bill was sixteen years old leaving him and his two older siblings with little money. This likely played a major role in why he would go on to write extensively about broken families and addiction.

Famous Dutch in the Netherlands
The best way to learn about the history of the country is by studying its famous people. Many of these individuals have had significant impacts on the country, either through their work or popular culture. Some are known for creating large corporations that still exist today, while others paved the way as pioneers who made the nation possible.
Many of the most well-known faces in the Netherlands come from two families: Van Vlissingen (or “Van”) and van Heemstra. The first family goes all the way back to before the Romans took over what would later be Europe, and the second has many members who became very wealthy during the Golden Age of the Netherlands, which lasted roughly between 1400 and 1720 AD.
Some of the more prominent names in this category include: Simon Stevin, author of The Landholder; Cornelis de Geyver, painter and sculptor whose works can be found across museums worldwide; and Pieter Paul Rubens, one of the greatest painters in Western art history.
Language of the Netherlands

The language of the Netherlands is called Flemish. It’s the most widely spoken Germanic language in Europe, with around 10 million native speakers. (German is the second most common language in the country.)
Like any other language descended from Old Norse, Flemish has evolved over time. For example, just like English, Dutch makes frequent use of -ed to form verbs. But before there were verbs, there was nothing but sounds!
Making sense of the way the languages have developed requires knowing how word roots are combined together. This is what linguists call morphological processes.
For instance, the word root for ‘arm’ - arme - becomes avar-m through the process of vowel reduction.

The food of the Netherlands

Dutch people are known for their love of meat and potatoes, snacks and drinks. They enjoy baking and cooking with an assortment of ingredients and styles.
The cuisine in the Netherlands has several distinctive features that make it stand out. One of these is what they call “french fries” or frieten as they say in Dutch.
Fries come in many different varieties but all contain raw potato cut into thin strips and cooked either in oil or butter.
These crispy fried bits of potato can be seasoned or not and made sweet or salty. Some add cheese to taste!
Another ingredient used in the cooking process is knoedsel (meat) such as chicken, beef, lamb or even pork. This is usually grilled or sautéd and then served with vegetables and/or noodles.
A special type of vegetable consumed by most natives is bibbionl. These thick, round slices look like white bread rolls but do not require toasting.
They are typically topped with olive oil and seasonings such as salt and pepper.

While some may consider French cuisine to be the highest quality, there is one type of cuisine that has truly become an integral part of our culture here in America- we have dessert!
Americans love desserts more than any other country in the world! We seem to have an endless supply at every restaurant, bar, or gathering event you attend.
We enjoy baking and cooking with sweets and adding them to everything from pizza to pasta dishes to eat alone (aka eating yourself as a snack)!
If you want to try making something delicious, look into your favorite foods for recipes. Some of the best ones come directly from what people were eating back when they wrote the recipe down.
This article will talk about five types of American desserts and how to make each of them.
Popular Dutch things to do in the Netherlands

Visit one of their famous zoos or botanical gardens like Amsterdam Zoo, Heerenhuis (The Hague), Nieuwe Zeedijk Park (Amsterdam) and more!
There you can spend time looking at all kinds of animals and plants. The beautiful landscapes are also an important part of the experience.
Many people consider visiting a zoo during spring or autumn to be the best times to visit a zoo as they get to see most of the exhibits in full swing.
You’ll find lots of families traveling abroad for the same reasons so make use of this by yourself or with your children! There is always something new to learn about different species and how they live.
Another popular activity is going on a boat trip or kayak tour through the country. You will enjoy watching the landscape pass by while listening to music.
