The term “legend” has different meanings for everyone, but most agree that a legend is someone who left an incredible legacy in their field or industry. They are typically considered to be people with rich histories in the area they now consider themselves legendary in. These individuals usually have stories of how they got where they are now as professionals heavily reported-upon.
The word “legend” also can describe someone who had great success early in life before falling into more casual pursuits, which later gained them attention and respect. People often talk about these once casual hobbies as if they were professional ones!
There are many famous people who fit this description of a legend. Some people know all of their names, while others remain unknown except to those close to them. Either way, there’s no denying that each one has left a lasting impression on our society. Here we will take a look at some of the greatest legends in history from both within and beyond cinema.

The next time you watch a movie or TV show, look around for some of these famous faces! Some may recognize them from television shows like Teen Wolf, Supernatural, How to Train Your Dragon, or Gravity Falls. Others could be seen in films such as The Fast and the Furious, Captain America, Spider-Man, Ghostbuster, or A Nightmare On Elm Street.
Many are known for their work behind the camera too, with directorships including Harry Potter movies, Thor, Hunger Games, Gone Girl, among many others.
The museum features all types of media, but most often people talk about how they interacted with film stars. This includes talking about your favorite scenes or characters, or if there was someone that made an impression on you as a person.
In fact, one student here at MIT created this list of “Hollywood Legends” to celebrate the lives of those who left a lasting impact on the world through their art. He wanted to share his list with the community so we can enjoy it. Many other students and staff members also added their favorites to make it more interesting.
This article will focus on the five biggest names on the list. You will learn about each individual’s career, what projects they achieved legendary status for, and some fun stories related to them.
Who is in the Louvre of the Movie Industry
A lot of people consider Steve McQueen to be in the very prestigious club of actors who are considered “greats” in their field. This includes his strong legacy as an actor, director, producer and humanitarian. He has won three Academy Awards for Best Actor (for his roles in Hunger Games, 12 Years a Slave, and Widows), and he was also nominated for another two Oscars for his performance in The Revenant earlier this year.
But aside from these achievements, he is most known for creating one of the greatest movie characters ever with Michael Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola’s 1972 classic The Godfather.
McQueen made his acting debut just before his twenty-fifth birthday in 2000 when he starred in the British crime drama Broken Home. Since then, he has gone onto appear in many more critically acclaimed films such as Twelve Year Old Daughter, Shame, The Hunter, Bewitched, Gone In 60 Seconds, and even Nightcrawler, which received widespread praise.
He currently stars in the Amazon Prime series Sneaky Pete, about a con artist trying to lead a double life, and he will next star in the biographical film Dirty Money, about disgraced American finance executive John Paul Mack. His upcoming projects include The Riot Club, The Devil AlltheTime, and Mary Queen of Scots.

The word "Legend" is thrown around quite frequently in our culture. People refer to people like this as legends because they say things that many other people think only these special individuals could say.
It sounds kind of funny, but it can be really annoying. As you may have noticed, there are already so many articles and lists making claims that this or that actor is a legend. Some even compare what a person has achieved to what others have said their legacy will be.
This article will not do that. I will try my best to avoid using the words "inspire", "revolutionize", and "legacy" when talking about actors.

Marlon Brando holds the record with 18 Academy Award nominations, which he won three times for Best Actor. He also has nine wins as a producer! His first win came for On The Waterfront back in 1955 and his last was for 1984's Superman.
Actress Sally Field received her own Oscar nomination for best supporting actress for her work in 1982 movie Terms of Endearment. She lost to Amy Adams for 2013’s No Country For Old Men.
Actor Robert Redford has spent over 40 years in the entertainment industry and boasts several accolades and awards. He even owns two prestigious honors that are not commonly given out to many people - one is a Grammy and the other is an Emmy. Both of these were awarded to him for his work in 2002 and 2004, respectively.

Many of these stars have left memorable lines in movies that stick with you long after you watch them. Some say things so powerful, they make you laugh or cry. Others may tell you something to be learned from or inspired by. There’s no wrong way to admire an actor’s work, but it is worth noting all of their contributions as we move through our lives pursuing dreams and creating experiences for ourselves.
Some people consider Brad Pitt arrogant because of his well-known perfectionist nature. He has said many times how difficult it was for him to reach success due to his perfectionism. But his desire to always do his best paid off!
He never settled for average work and he will continue to inspire us in that department for years to come. And even though he doesn’t speak very often, when he does, we listen. His personal philosophy can be summed up in one word: believe. Believe in yourself, your potential, your strength, and most importantly, trust in God. It’s easy to see what he has done for himself, but ask yourself - what would I want for myself if I didn’t believe I could achieve my goals?
There’s a reason why these gifted individuals have spent their careers entertaining others, and it’s because they know only one thing - belief in oneself leads to confidence, which brings out the best in you.

Many consider The Matrix to be one of the greatest films ever made! Not only is it an incredible movie, but the setting really adds to the overall feel of the film. The story takes place in a virtual reality world where people are trained to believe that everything you see is real through computer technology.
The movie uses the surrounding landscape as a strong supporting character by having most of the scenes take place within the Los Angeles area or outside buildings such as the beach, the house, etc.
There’s even a scene where Neo (the main protagonist) climbs down into a large pool surrounded by lush green vegetation. This creates an amazing backdrop for the scene since there are pools in the area and greenery all around.
Many other well-known films were also partially filmed in the LA area or took advantage of the rich look this city can offer. These include Good Day For Evil, Almost Famous, Blade Runner, Gremlins, Dazed And Confused, Jurassic Park, The Italian Job, To Live And Die In L.A.

Many consider Robert Redford to be one of the greatest action movie stars ever, so it is no surprise that he has won an array of prestigious awards for his work. He starred in The Candidate as well as All Good Things (2013) which were both nominated for Best Picture at this year’s Academy Awards!
He also starred in many classic films such as The Devil With Due (*insert very dramatic music*) and The Way We Were where he received an Oscar nomination. His other movies include The Hot Kid, Barefoot Contessa, The Legend Of Bagger Vance, Captain America: Civil War, and more!
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is another actor who made a name for himself by starring in several blockbusters. Some of his most popular roles include Black Lightning in Justice League, Dwayne "Bones" Defreitas in Baywatch, and John McClane in all three Die Hard movies.
Sylvester Stallone is arguably one of the biggest names in acting today! Since breaking into the industry with Rocky back in 1976, he has gone onto star in over twenty-five feature length films including Getaway, Demolition Man, Tango & Cash, Rambo, Escape Plan, and Creed!
Nicolas Cage is known for being eccentric and unpredictable, making him a fan favorite.

Many of your favorite film and television characters were at one time lived out as true stories by their creators. These writers often times include little mentions or references to their childhoods, which they use to add depth to the character.
Some examples of this are Robert De Niro’s hardscrabble upbringing in The Godfather: Part II, where his character was inspired by real life mobster Vito Corleone, or Angelina Jolie’s struggle with her identity as Lara Croft in the movie series.
Many celebrities come from modest backgrounds, but there are also those who didn’t speak about their rich experiences until later in their career. This can be due to them not feeling like they deserved it, or because they wanted to protect their privacy.
Overall, these little anecdotes added to the characterization and understanding of the person beyond just what we see on screen. A good source for these is any biography of an actor’s personal life.
