How A Hollywood Wax Is Done
Many people have asked me how I manage to stay in such great shape, given that I work with my skin all day every day. It’s a very interesting question!
I actually get this question quite a bit since I now have an online business where you can learn how to do yourself cosmetic beauty treatments like waxing. Some people are even surprised when they find out what kind of tools I use for my own hair and skin.
Since I share my professional secrets here on my website, probably one of the first things most people ask is “how does she hold her pumice stone?” or “what type of brush do you use to apply coconut oil?” Or maybe they want to know about my favorite roll-on oils.
The best way to answer these questions is by talking more about my personal grooming routines. However, starting off with my skincare routine isn’t exactly appropriate since I don’t usually talk much about it.
But today we will!
We will start with something close to home - my hairstyling tool, which happens to be a fabulous two-in-one. You may have seen them before; some call them bobby pins, ear stud clips, or wall anchors. I refer to them as Hairstylist Bands because that’s just what they were designed to be.
The process
All professional waxing is done in a sterile environment, so make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before and after each step!
As with any cosmetic procedure, there are several different ways to do hair removal. Many people prefer hairless methods like sugaring or plugs, but others enjoy more traditional styles.
Some hairstyles require more frequent grooming than others, which can be quite expensive if you’re looking to rid yourself of all the hairs that grow back quickly. This article will go over some cost-effective alternatives for women who want a close look at how well their own hair grows back.
The most popular way to remove facial hair is by using liquid hot wax. Liquid hot wax was first used in ancient Greece, and now it has been improved upon and made much safer. People have modified the temperature and consistency of the wax to meet their needs and preferences.
There are two main types of liquid hot waxes: gel and solid. Both work effectively depending on what type of skin you have and how fast your hair grows back. Luckily, both can be found easily online or through local beauty supply stores. Some sellers even advertise how long their product will last, making it worth a try if you are ever running out.
What you wear
When someone asks if you had your hair done, what kind of look they want to see, or whether you used gel or shampoo and conditioner, etc., show off all of your new hairs!
If you have thinning hair, then using products that are not too heavy with alcohol is better than using gel.
Regular shampoos and conditionsers will work just as well. Make sure to wash and groom your hair properly after the procedure to ensure it does not get stuck or clogged.
We recommend doing one week waiting weeks before having a second treatment due to possible reactions. Also make sure to test your shampoo and conditioner on some small patches of dry hair first to see if there is any irritation.
Removing the wax can be tricky as some people say it comes right out while others require rubbing in some oil or cream first to help melt down the wax. We recommend both for this reason.
Seal the hair with a wax-based product
Once your hairs are completely dry, use either an old hand mirror or hold up a piece of paper to check if the seal is complete! If you see small cracks in the wax, apply more until it is solidified.
Never pull out any clumps of melted wax because this could hurt yourself or cause some pretty funny looks while traveling or swimming!
After the hair has fully dried, run your hands over it to make sure it feels smooth and there are no bumps.
Use a moisturizing cream
When your body is wet, it can be difficult to get a good lather of wax. Using a moisturizer in place of pure milk or water will help ease this process.
Most people use coconut oil as a natural skin-care product because it acts as both a cosmetic ingredient and a health aid. It helps strengthen your hair and skin and promote overall healthy skin growth. Coconut oil also aids in protecting your skin from external factors such as infectious agents, allergens, and chemicals.
You can apply the moisturizer directly onto your skin before applying the wax, which may help improve how well the glue sticks and spreads. Alternatively, you can rinse the dry skin with some of the moisturizer first and then coat it in the gel form of wax.
Make sure to wash your hands immediately after using either type of moisturizer so that they are not contaminated.
Use a sunscreen
When waxing your hair, make sure to use a good quality sun protection lotion or spray before, during and after the process.
Most people begin using professional grade products such as pomegrate gel or cocoa butter for skin care around about year mark of employment. These are very expensive so most individuals do not use them unless they have training in applying them properly.
However, there is a much more cost effective way to protect yourself from excessive sunlight exposure while still getting adequate sunblock coverage. Simply put, apply some lip balm!
Lip balms are usually made of oils that naturally darken due to exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light. This does not occur necessarily when you wear your lip balm, but instead once it has been exposed to air.
The intensity and color of the lip balm will depend on your natural sun protective factors in its ingredients.
Do the wax really stay on?
After all, how long can you expect those hairs to stick around before they’re combed away? A few minutes at least!
Many people have asked me whether or not the wax actually stays on for enough time to be effective. The answer is yes - it does! But I must warn you that this may take more than a few minutes.
It takes several minutes for your hair to completely lose its hold on the wax due to the thickness of the hair. Even then, there are no guarantees that it will totally disappear.
However, once it does, you should see your desired look soon! It will also help prevent chipping and flaking of the new layer of wax that has been applied over the current one.
The results
A wax is an integral part of most people’s grooming habits. It’s not just for boys anymore! People enjoy having a professional level hair removal method that they can rely on to get their own look perfect every time.
A lot of people agree that sugaring or chemical treatments are annoying and painful, which is why there are so many different methods now of using a razor to remove all the needed hairs. Some people may even choose to do it themselves!
If you feel that your skin is too sensitive for conventional shaving, then laser and hot waxing are great alternatives. Both use heat to melt off the top layer of skin, so anyone with thin hair or light brown/dark brown color hair will be fine with them.
Overall, though, people seem to prefer the simplicity and precision of using a razor over any other option.
Is it painful?
While most people may think that waxing is a painless process, this isn’t always the case. Many body parts require more than just hair removal to feel comfortable (check out our list here).
Some of these areas include: legs, feet, armpits, scalp, etc. There are several types of waxing too! For example, sugaring requires very hot wax and repeated applications to induce pores in the skin which allows for faster healing and better breathability.
Many people have no idea what kind of wax is used or how it is applied for certain areas. Some people prefer one type over another. If you're ever curious, ask your favorite hairstylist, skincare professional, or even someone with a little bit more experience then them!
