How Accurate Is Los Santos To Los Angeles

As we mentioned before, GTA V takes place in the San Francisco area as well as several other cities that are not necessarily labeled as “real” locations but have been verified by various sources. One of these is called Los Santos which has received mixed reviews depending on who you ask. Some say it looks too much like real life while others believe it fits quite nicely!

There is one major difference between the two though- the weather! In Grand Theft Auto there is no winter so if you want to see beautiful sunsets then this game is not for you. Luckily, our experts were able to tell us how close together the seasons are in both areas and what effects each one has.

There are many landmarks that are the same between the cities

A great way to know if your game is more like San Andreas or Grand Theft Auto V is by looking at some of the buildings in the city. If you notice there are no differences, then it is clear that this version of GTA is more reminiscent of San Andreas.

In The City, we have three different skyscraper types. We have corporate headquarters, entertainment complex, and residential towers. You will not find any other style shapes or heights of these structures.

There are also very few street level entrances into each tower, unless they are for an organization or company. Most just have normal doors that people can access.

We did see one hotel that had a separate entrance for VIP guests, but none for common travelers.

Some locations have been changed slightly

In some cases, certain areas in The Crew have you playing as an entirely different area or city. This is very prevalent with downtown LA being rebranded as ‘The City’ and Venice now called simply ‘Venice’.

In The Crew 2, we see players take control of almost all of Santa Monica up until just before it meets Malibu! They get to explore this new beach side community fully and even battle it out there if they so desire.

Santa Monicans will feel really happy to know that their beautiful beaches are still intact here in The Crew 2! You do not need to worry about your car getting stolen either because no one has access to any vehicles in these newly made cities.

There is also only one type of vehicle allowed within each city which makes for some interesting racing situations. Obviously, most people would be able to tell you how fun Grand Theft Auto V can be, but The Crew comes with its own special flair that sets itself apart.

There are many differences between the two cities

Many people claim that Los Santos has too much of an urban feel, but there are actually several major differences between the two cities. Besides the fact that one is located in California and one is not, only some parts of the city in The Getaway resemble San Francisco or other large coastal metropolitan areas.

The most prominent difference is how entertainment is integrated into daily life. This includes theaters, museums, sports arenas, etc. That is definitely not the case in San Francisco!

Another thing is how accessible different areas of the city are for individuals who do not live in rich enclaves. For instance, if you want to go shopping at a mall, you will have to use public transportation which does not necessarily look like it is designed with tourists in mind.

Some locations in Los Santos are not in the same area of Los Angeles

The first thing you should notice is that some areas of Los Santos seem like they could be anywhere. There are no landmarks, or features that set these parts apart from each other.

There are also many buildings that look almost identical to one another. This includes apartment complexes, hotels, and office spaces!

It is hard to tell where the city ends and where the next district begins because there are very few distinguishing features. It is also difficult to determine how large or small an area is, as everything looks about the same.

The main street of San Andre has become popularly known as Route 9 due to its close resemblance with California’s Highway 101 highway. Many people have mistaken it for the state route!

This caused quite a bit of confusion initially, but eventually everyone just accepted it.

Some famous landmarks are in different locations

In the GTA Online pre-launch trailer, there is an extended look at the map. If you pay close attention, you can tell that most of Southern California has been rebuilt using in-game assets.

The setting is clearly labeled as being set in “Los Santos” which directly translates into “Los Angeles” due to the game’s clever use of place names. The only thing about this area that seems inaccurate is the beach. It looks like they just took what was left over after building Malibu and added some palm trees here and there.

However, when you compare the two maps side by side, it becomes clear that everything else in the United States has been recreated with high quality graphics and accuracy.

The traffic is very different

One of the first things that people notice when they play GTA V is how fast cars go! They admire the speed and handling of the vehicles, but at the same time, some may feel overwhelmed by it.

When you are driving in Los Santos, there will be times when you have to wait for heavy traffic to move before you can take off again. This can get really frustrating as the longer you sit, the more likely you are to be caught or pulled over by police.

Traffic in America is extremely congested so we cannot say if this is an accurate representation or not. It is however interesting to note the differences between the two cities.

Some popular things to do are the same

In the case of The Getaway, you’re typically given the option to play as either Barry or Brecken, two characters with very different personalities.

As Barry, your goal is to elude capture while exploring and collecting items for worth points. You can steal cars and boats if needed.

But don't get cocky! There's always another cop around somewhere so keep an eye out for them.

The more dangerous levels ask you to survive longer, which usually means finding helpful vehicles or stealing one away. Best of luck to you!

Brecken is much less stealthy, he doesn’t need help looking cool though. He’s got his own style that includes lots of guns and flashy clothes.

His gameplay style is totally up to yourself but most players choose to be more aggressive, taking whatever opportunities they can during The Getaway.

Some things are very different

Although there is no way to know for sure, it seems like most of the buildings in GTA V have been placed into certain settings or areas of the game. This includes rooftops, interior levels, outside environments, etc.

What this means is that even if some parts seem totally excluded from interacting with, you can still do so! For example, the rooftop at The Container Terminal is fully playable but just use stealthy tactics instead.
