Artistic vision
As we mentioned before, artists use different tools to convey their messages and stories. For TV shows, those artistic tools include color schemes, moods, characters, and of course, animations.
Artists develop strong colors that match or contrast with each other, establish tone and settings for your show, and create lovable characters. They also add illustrations, like cartoons, to tell a story.
Animation is an easy way to tell a story because it uses pictures to get across ideas, emotions, and messages. It’s just like real life!
It is very cost-effective for television studios to use animation as a tool. This is why so many big name brands have their own sitcoms or dramas you have probably watched at some point.
There are several styles of animation depending on what type of look you want to achieve. Comic style cartoons are drawn in a funny fashion which makes them fun to watch. Flash animated movies have very quick changes and scenes that can be difficult to follow. Stop motion video is filmed frame by frame, taking longer to edit down but having more detail.
3D modeling
When an artist wants to create a new character, they begin with a template or shape of body part that they like. They then modify this template to fit their design ideas and specifications.
In the case of cartoon characters, artists often use computer software or a scanner to collect reference material for different body parts. This includes everything from feet to hands to noses to mouths.
Once these references are gathered, the artists compare them all and find the one that looks most similar to the intended character. The ones that look the most like the original go into the computer program as close as possible while still looking good.
This process is repeated until every major body part has been designed and built in the computer. Once completed, the person creating the character will take these shapes and combine them together to make the final model.
The models are then textured using special programs to give the characters depth and dimension. These textures also help reduce glare when light reflects off of the surface of the skin.
Computer animation
Animation is an art form that has been around for quite some time. Ancient cultures performed animations to tell stories, such as moving pictures where you can see things come into focus or dissolve.
Animation came back in style in the late 19th century with Walt Disney’s classic films like The Jungle Book and Dumbo. These movies made him rich and famous!
Today, there are many ways to create anim-ations. Some of the most well known styles are Flash animated videos and GIFs, 2D cartoon styled animations (like those found in YouTube channels) and 3D computer generated animations.
3d computer graphics have become very accessible now. You no longer need large equipment or special training to produce beautiful visuals. All you need is a good camera, a laptop and software designed to edit CG images and videos. There are plenty of free and paid software options available online and through app stores.

Key animation
A key frame is an image or a set of images that can be placed in a sequence to create movement, change, or story progression. For example, if you wanted to see someone running away quickly, you could use one long shot with them running as a key frame. Or, if you wanted to show someone getting into bed, you could have their leg going up first, then second foot coming down.
Animation comes from putting these frames together in order to make it feel natural and fluid. When creating your movie, there are two main people who work on animations: artists and animators. Artists design the characters and settings, while animators animate the characters through the different positions.
Render times
One of the biggest costs in making an animated movie is rendering! The term refers to taking 3D images and turning them into 2D pictures, which are then put onto a screen or printed out.
This process takes time and it can be expensive depending on how many frames you have to do this for. For example, if there’s only one frame, it doesn’t take as long but it will cost more money because you have to pay someone to do that work for you!
Luckily, computers get much faster every year so it doesn’t make sense to say “there’s no way we could afford to render these scenes” anymore. But even with all those resources, it still takes hours and hours to complete a scene.
That’s why most studios use computer programs that already have built-in ways to check off things like “rendering” under the word “costume design” or something similar. These tools may also include features that automatically correct colors or add effects such as flames or hair.
There are several good online communities where artists share tips and tricks for using these software packages efficiently.
The voice cast
A show is not able to exist without great voices, so having a large amount of diverse people who enjoy storytelling is very important. When creating your character, think about what types of stories you like, how you feel in certain situations, and if there are any characters that you have always wanted to hear from behind a microphone!
Your actor may already have their own ideas for their characters, but it’s good to go into meetings early on with concepts or things they can say about their characters. This way you don’t waste time going back and forth trying to make them agree or see the value in something that has been said before.
Once everyone is on board, bring each person together to discuss their characters, determine where these individuals come from, and find ways to navigate themselves through conversations as well as possible.
Lastly, look up some of the actors’ past work to get a sense of who they are and what styles they use when speaking emotionally.
