How Entertainment Is Ruining Society
As we know, media has an incredible influence on society. It teaches people about different topics, it creates conversations, and it is a source of entertainment for most.
However, with all these benefits there are also negatives that arise due to how much media saturates our culture. Media can become too entertaining to watch, and even educational content may lack importance because viewers don’t take anything seriously.
We have seen this effect before in history. When Ancient Greeks would spend hours watching comedies, they learned nothing from what was going on around them. And the Romans would sit through murder dramas without learning anything about leadership.
In both cases, the audience wanted to be entertained, so nothing changed.
Today, we see a similar situation developing. People are spending too much time immersed in media, which isn’t good for their personal or professional development.
Many feel that life doesn’t matter because everything seems empty and trivial after you turn off the TV. Others think that success only depends on who you look like instead of what you do. A small minority use media as a way to hurt others, something that will never go unnoticed.
This article will talk about some examples of how media influences us, why it is a problem, and ways to fix it. After reading, you will understand the gravity of the issue and how to combat it.
The internet is changing how we get our entertainment

We are in a golden era of entertainment where anyone, anywhere has access to vast amounts of content at any time. Gone are the days when only major media sources like TV and Movies had rich ecosystems that required you to have an account to watch them.
Content creators no longer need big studios or television networks to reach people because they have their own streaming services and/or computer programs via your phone or home-computer use.
This new normal for entertainment can lead to one problem though - overconsumption. People now have easy access not just to what content exists but how much of it there is!
There’s always something new coming out, making it hard to settle into long lasting favorites. More often than not, if someone doesn’t recognize or name this new show, then it hasn’t received enough attention to be considered “good” thus leading to more watching.
This constant stream of entertaining content also means that most people don’t really spend too much time giving anything a chance unless it was heavily marketed to them.
Consuming rather than investing in things is a pretty negative change so it’s important to consider the effects that online entertainment may be having on society.
The negative effects of gaming

Overcoming social anxiety is difficult enough without adding games to the mix. Gaming can sometimes contribute to mental health issues, like depression or PTSD.
Research has shown that playing video games for too long can lead to stress-related symptoms, such as trouble sleeping, irritability, and flashbacks. This link between gaming and mental health was made in research studies, not anecdotal experiences.
Gaming can also take away from other activities because people feel tired after working out and then turn on their game system to watch TV or play something else.
There are some benefits to gaming, but they are very limited. Games can be fun, so it’s important to keep them short. Also, limiting your screen time overall is better for your mental health.
It’s best to use games for entertainment purposes and avoid getting invested emotionally.
The negative effects of TV shows

In our constant exposure to entertainment, people lose connection with other important things in their lives.
As we become more immersed in this medium, we forget how to have conversations that matter.
We forget what is important to us - relationships that are meaningful go out the window as we spend most of our time watching television or surfing the internet.
We become disconnected from nature due to less frequent outdoor activities and spending lots of time indoors where only TVs exist.
We stop talking to each other because there’s no reason to since nothing matters beyond the next episode of your favorite show.
I’m not saying be blindingly focused on media, but don’t use it as an excuse to ignore everything else in your life.
It's also very expensive! A couple of hours of TV can easily cost you hundreds if you're willing to watch less popular programs.
There are many ways to enjoy media without suffering major consequences to yourself and the world around you. You don't need to give up all forms of entertainment, just think about why you're investing your time in something and whether it's really worth it.
The negative effects of YouTube

With every passing day, there is more proof that television, movies, and video games are ruining our society. More people spend their time watching entertainment than doing anything else.
Many studies show how much violence and sex content in media contributes to growing rates of childhood obesity. It also raises stress levels and creates mental health issues for young audiences.
On top of all this, violent films and videos often portray gory scenes which can influence viewers’ perceptions of appropriate violence.
People who study psychology say exposure to such material could actually make you feel bad about yourself or even urge to commit acts of aggression.
There have been many cases where someone who has seen enough violent content becomes a serious threat to hurt themselves or others.
It is important to be aware of the harmful effects of media so as to prevent situations like these. Unfortunately, most of us are because it is constantly bombarded into our brains.
The negative effects of social media

We are in a golden era of entertainment where anyone can produce, distribute, and gain recognition for anything they put out. With the rise of the internet, this has led to an explosion in content production- there is just too much of it!
Content producers are not necessarily talented, but their messages are usually positive or at least neutral. They may use flashy or dramatic editing styles to draw attention, which gives their videos more impact.
Many people enjoy content like these because they feel they “reach” a wider audience. It seems as though everyone has access to a camera and technology makes it possible to produce and upload vast amounts of content very quickly.
But how well did those things work out for all of us, really?
We have become the most addicted society ever to new forms of media. Technology itself was a catalyst for this shift. Before mobile phones, people were less likely to constantly be connected to something 24 hours a day.
With the availability of smart phones, however, that changed. People now have access to entertainment at every moment, which can contribute to mental health issues. In fact, one study found that smartphone addiction was linked to depression and anxiety.
Other studies suggest that constant exposure to digital media can cause stress, which can influence sleep patterns. This could potentially lead to other psychological disorders such as PTSD or compulsive disorder.
How to enjoy entertainment

We are constantly exposed to more and more media content, which is increasingly focused on capturing our attention and money for advertisers. Technology has allowed ever-expanding ways to access this media content, making it easier than ever to be immersed in various forms of entertainment.
The problem is that many people get involved in too much entertainment. Many individuals spend large amounts of time watching TV, listening to music, playing video games and reading books and magazines.
This excessive consumption of entertainment not only takes up a lot of time, but also expensively distributes limited resources (like electricity) among all these activities.
Furthermore, some parts of entertainment can have negative effects on society. For example, when people become obsessed with popular culture like movie and television shows, they may develop an attachment to certain characters or storylines that promote harmful attitudes and behaviors.
We as humans need to learn how to regulate our intake of entertainment so we do not overconsume it. It is important to understand what types of entertainment are necessary for your development as a person and why.
Go to the cinema

This week saw the release of the new Spider-Man film, which was greeted with widespread praise. Many critics called it one of the best superhero films ever made, while others labelled it as pure entertainment that you have to admire.
But what is so disturbing about this movie is not just how good it is, but how successful it has become in our society.
It seems like every few weeks we are hit with another media blitz promoting this or that movie or show. People seem more attached to these stories than ever before, and they are becoming increasingly emotional over them.
This may be because we now live in an era where storytelling is popularly accepted. Technology makes it easy for people to consume narratives at lightning speed, and social media allows for constant exposure.
As such, there is no longer any need to feel educated after watching a movie. What kind of person needs to feel educationized after spending two hours watching a character’s life unfold on screen?
We have become very story hungry.
Be realistic

We as human beings need to realize that we have enough entertainment already! And not all of it is good or worth your time.
We spend way too much time watching TV, surfing the internet, listening to music, and spending money buying things that no one needs!
It’s easy to get distracted by the media and advertisements telling us how to use our lives, saying “You NEED THIS PRODUCT!” or “YOU WILL LACK CONFIDENCE WITHOUT X!”
But what if I told you that there’s a product out there that does NOT work? That is completely useless and expensive? A fake solution that leaves you worse off than before?
I’m talking about entertainment.
Many people seem to think that more entertainment means happiness and success. But this isn’t true at all!
A lot of commercials promote self-help and wellness books and products, so why don’t they work? Because these concepts are built on false assumptions!
If you read this article, then it’s very possible that someone has made an assumption about you, which is probably wrong.
