If you look back over our past months, you will see there was no shortage of pictures taken during any season!

With all of these outdoor activities, people have to find ways to keep fit when the weather does not cooperate with them. One way to do this is by engaging in seasonal fitness. In fact, we have our first significant rainfall of the season this week! Luckily, it is only one day, so you do not need to worry too much about any work being canceled or games postponed due to wet fields or courts.

This month we are blessed with some of our best weather of the year! While it may not feel like summer due to colder temperatures, there is still no reason to hibernate during this beautiful season.

Los Angeles has an incredible array of outdoor activities that do not require too much effort or money. If you love spending time outside then you should make sure to check out one of these active seasons!

Some examples include taking a walk at the beach, going for a run/cycle, swimming, kayaking, sports such as football, soccer, or basketball, visiting museums and galleries, and more.

There are also many theaters and movie studios offering free or cheap movies and tvs during winter nights. Many of these have open air seating so even if you cannot watch the show outside you can at least enjoy the scenery.

We may not have experienced an all-time record for rainfall, but we did break our monthly record! This past month was very close to breaking our old record of 11.67 inches set back in September 1981.

That means that this month alone, we received almost 2 feet of rain! While most areas only get one or two days with significant precipitation every few months, we got at least seven days with heavy downpours here in Southern California.

This is due to several factors. First, it is still autumn, which can produce wet seasons. Second, there are strong winds coming off the Pacific Ocean which push moisture inland. Third, there are frequent microbursts (short periods of heavy rains) caused by wind shear. These occur when ascending air meets descending air, causing lightning and more intense showers.

Overall, climate change makes weather events like these happen more frequently than they once did. And while global temperatures aren’t as high now as they were during El Niño, climate patterns are becoming longer and stronger, which makes extreme conditions even more likely to occur.
