How Much Of Hollywood Is Nepotism
It’s an almost constant source of criticism for people like me, outsiders looking in, to see how much of a “family” certain celebrities seem to be.
It feels like there are never more than two or three non-related individuals who get mentioned, and even then it’s only because they worked together on some project years ago.
For example, I read an article recently about how Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift have such a strong friendship that it influenced their music and style.
But what got left out was that both of them also go to the same church! And not just any church, but one with similar ideals and messages which is why it’s so surprising to see this close bond between two totally different artists.
This kind of thing is very common in the film industry. For every movie that gets made, a lot of effort goes into ensuring that those involved with the production know each other well. This way if someone has a question or need, you can refer to each other directly instead of going outside sources.
It’t necessarily good though - it can create cliques where only people from a specific group get access to things. This is especially true at higher levels, where most people are not allowed inside unless they are part of the inner circle.
Examples of nepotism in the media

Recent examples of blatant nepotism include actor Jake Gyllenhaal being given his big break as an actor due to connections, actress Rose Byrne receiving praise for her performance despite not being well-known before she was attached to this project, and director James Gunn getting hired because he is connected to those who work at Disney or are friends with people at Disney.
These three examples clearly show that there is a large amount of nepotism within the film industry. For example, let’s look back at our first topic!
Gunn made several controversial comments about various groups while working as a producer at Marvel. When these surfaced, Disney decided to give him his job back, proving their belief in his moral integrity. He then proceeded to make more offensive statements which got him fired again, but only after he was offered a position elsewhere.
This shows how much power relationships have in the movie business. If you aren’t part of the “in” crowd, your chances of having a career go down very quickly. It also proves that even if someone does make some racist or sexist remarks, they will be protected by their status.
There is no reason why anyone must agree with what every individual in this article has said about them, but it is important to recognize just how much control others have over your career.
Examples of nepotism in the government

Technically, when someone is given a position of power because they are related to someone who has that power already, it’s not considered nepotistic per se, but rather just plain old-fashioned cronyism.
Nepotism, however, is quite another thing. When people use their positions for personal gain by giving them to friends or family, that's called favoritism or patronage. It isn't necessarily wrong, but it can become corrupt if those offering the favors aren't serving the public interest.
In fact, there have been many cases in history where powerful individuals put relatives into high paying jobs so that they may reap the benefits later. This is clearly unethical.
Sadly, this kind of behavior is all too common in our society today. In some ways, we're living through a modern day version of the Roman Empire, except instead of strong men putting their relatives in power, it's often women who do it via sexism.
Why is nepotism so bad?

Technically, it’s not illegal to be family friendly or promote products that help people connect with each other. It’s just not okay to use your position to do it. In fact, in some cases, it can even hurt you!
That seems crazy right? But think about it for a second - how many times have we seen someone get a big promotion because they are related to somebody powerful?
It may seem like a nice gesture, but what it really does is set a very specific example for others. By showing that their relatives get good treatment, those without connections may feel that if their relative “X” gets his/her job done then maybe THEY CAN TOO!
This can create an environment where under-qualified employees are incentivized to keep their mouths shut and do things properly so as not to risk being passed over for a higher position. Or, employees could put in less effort since there isn’t much hope of getting ahead.
Nepotism has also been linked to poor quality work. Since workers know that their colleagues have connections, they’re likely to go easy when they should be putting in more effort. This sometimes leads to lower standards and poorer customer service.
Writing is a tool used to convey messages and establish relationships with individuals and groups. As such, writers must learn how to balance establishing intimacy with other people while still delivering strong content.

Many people have criticized popular media for being overly influenced by its surrounding culture, especially when it comes to entertainment features such as movies or television shows.
Some argue that this influence is mostly due to simple nepotism - hiring or promoting friends or family members because they know them and believe they can help your project.
This article will talk about how much of an influence nepotism has in the film and TV industry. It may not be as dramatic as using guns against each other, but it’s still very possible to see examples of it in every area!
It all starts with who gets hired. More often than not, someone you know gets a job because of connections rather than their talents. This is what makes it easy to identify instances of nepotism.
Nepotism is also seen in which positions people are given and whether they get paid more depending on if they are “family” or not.

Many people have made a career in entertainment by being very close to powerful or famous people. This is typically referred to as being a professional “friend” of the rich and/or famous.
Professional friends are not only given special treatment, but they are also rewarded with money, positions, and kudos for their work. Because most of these professionals learned from someone more experienced, they feel that they already know what needs to be done to succeed in the industry.
This mentality makes it hard for them to hone their skills and experiment with new ways to market themselves because they believe they already have everything needed to succeed.

Many people have made a career in filmmaking by being trained from a young age as professional filmmakers. This is typically done through either attending film school or working with an already established filmmaker that teaches you the basics of directing, then you are promoted into higher positions such as second-unit director or additional filming credits.
If we take a closer look at the top film directors’ employment histories, however, we will find that most had close family members who also worked in the entertainment industry. Some even gave their first job to a member of their family!
This isn’t necessarily a bad thing but it can create a situation where only your relatives can succeed in the art form your father or uncle knows so well. This is called nepotism, and it exists in almost every field there is.
Nepotism can be very detrimental to overall equality for everyone involved. It creates an environment where only certain people are able to succeed because they were always taught how to perform them.

Many people praise the diversity in media, how it portrays different cultures and lifestyles, but some argue that this is only possible because of strong internalized racism within our society.
Some say that we need to address the issue of internalized racist attitudes before we can really achieve diversity in media. Others believe that having more diverse backgrounds represented in popular culture is already enough to see changes.
Either way, most agree that there’s an obvious lack of racial diversity among those who make important creative decisions in film and television.
In fact, research shows that almost half (48%) of all top 100 scripted films are directed by men who are white. Only five out of the hundred directors are black!
And the same goes for TV where only 6% of award winning series are not written or produced by someone from underrepresented groups.

Over the past few years, there have been constant accusations that much of Hollywood is full of rich, well connected people who are only investing in projects because of who they know.
There’s no denying that some wealthy individuals use their money to help promote themselves or for other reasons, like donating to charities or funding research programs.
But many others invest in films and television shows for purely financial reasons - creating opportunities for talented writers, directors and actors to be paid more and improve their career paths.
It is very common in this industry for people with money to get jobs too… which is another form of bias.
