How Often You Watch Hollywood Movies

Addison Smith

As with anything else, there are always gurus that have their influence spreading their message about things. For this article, I will be using my own experiences as well as those of others to create an argument!

I will also include some simple tips and tricks in this article for you to consider. So, let’s get started!

Firstly, what is it we are talking about? We are discussing how often people watch Hollywood movies. More specifically, we are looking at how frequently someone who works in media or marketing watches such films.

If you read between the lines here, you will see that most people don’t because they believe that all big movie studios produce only average content that few people like.

Some even go so far as saying that many major studio productions are just plain bad and/or misleading (see: The Matrix).

So why should you care?

You shouldn’t if you want your business or lifestyle to thrive. That said, let us look into some reasons why you SHOULD put some effort into watching more media than usual…

I watch a movie every week

As we discussed earlier, this article’s title is about how often you should be watching movies. So let's talk about what kind of movie watcher you are!
I consider myself to be a very casual movie viewer.

I will spend one or two nights a month where I will see a movie that I have been wanting to see for awhile. Or possibly a night at the theater if there is a new release event happening.

But otherwise, my weekly movie schedule consists of either Netflix or YouTube videos. A show that has recently ended gets re-watched within the next day or so, while a feature film gets watched in full during its opening weekend.

Incidentally, both of these types of movies are usually ones that I had no problem getting through when they first released. They're not films that left me thinking “wow, why didn't anyone tell me about that before?” But once I've seen them, they stick with me for some reason.

I watch a movie every month

As we have seen, people tend to place more value in how busy they are instead of what kind of time they have. So, when it comes to movie watching, some people do not spend enough time on it at all. Some people will go several months without seeing a film or will wait until the end of the year to see a specific one.

Other people will put off going to the movies because they think there is no good showings within their area. They may also believe that the theater does not offer enough variety of films or that the price is too high.

However, this cannot be an excuse anymore. With technology being what it is these days, you can easily access almost any movie anywhere! There are even services that send you free tickets via mail for attending a certain number of screenings.

I used to watch movies frequently but now I only watch a few

As we know, not everyone enjoys watching movie after movie, especially if you are not a fan of that genre or tone of film.
Therefore, how often you choose to watch a movie is very important in determining your overall movie watching habit.

If you never want to see another action movie then there is no need to invest in an action movie DVD player.

Or if you do not like romantic comedies then it makes sense to wait until you re-enter that genre before investing in one.

The same goes for horror films - you can always wait to stream them instead of buying the DVDs.

I always watch movies

As well as watching action films, most people spend their time actively seeking out stories. This is typically categorized as either movie or television show watchers. People who only watch TV shows are referred to as TV viewers, whereas those who just watch movies are considered cinema goers.

There’s a reason that movie theaters are usually more crowded than your average TV show. Cinema goers enjoy the experience of seeing a film with an audience, sharing laughter and conversation after the movie has ended. Plus, you get some snacks!

But what if we told you that nobody actually cares about the content of these stories?

I mean, sure, there are sometimes themes related to each other or events that foreshadow future things, but that’s it. The stories themselves aren’t anything special. They’re not designed to teach us something or inspire motivation in us, they don’t have any clever metaphors or illustrations, and none of them contain anything beyond vague allusions to moral qualities like honesty and hard work.

This is why it's so surprising when someone says that they “learned something important from [the] movie.” By and large, story characters do not offer valuable lessons. At best, they give you some inspiration or clues about how to be more productive at certain tasks, but even then it's probably nothing too significant.

I review a lot of movies

As we all know, movie reviews are very subjective. Some people love action films while others prefer more emotional stories. What kind of stories appeal to you? A romantic comedy is an excellent example of an emotion-filled story.

A few weeks ago, I reviewed The Way He Looks for a minute and there was some discussion about whether or not it was factually accurate. This got me thinking - how often do you watch Hollywood movies?

I think it’s important to recognize that although your opinion may be strong, so is mine! No one really knows what types of movies most people like unless those people tell us.

So instead of guessing, let’s look at some hard data. Let’s see just how many times popular filmmakers create successful narratives.

Movie studios produce a large amount of content every year. In fact, they produce so much content that they have their own internal rankings systems to determine which films are “successful.” These rankings include things such as revenue, audience reactions, word of mouth, etc.

If you add up all of these numbers, then you get a total number of film viewings. By examining this total, we can determine how frequently different genres are watched.

I watch only Oscar-nominated movies

As much as it may sound like someone with my movie taste is not watching many films, that’s definitely not the case! I have just as many (if not more) classic movies than anyone else, and my favorite film genres all started from me sticking to my favorites.

So instead of trying to watch a wide variety of films, I choose to focus on only those that have been nominated for an Academy Award. This includes both feature length films and documentaries, which are two totally different types of entertainment!

My reasoning for this is that most people who make these films also work in the media industry, so they are already familiar with the process by which their stories get told. They probably made some of these stories themselves, or at least know lots about them, making them worthy of attention!

By choosing to watch only top quality films, your knowledge of cinema can grow quickly.

I only watch action movies

how often you watch hollywood movies

As much as I love action movie-watching, my watching habits are kind of limited to just one type of movie. I will add in some action here or there, but my favorite style of action is definitely fast-paced with lots of explosions.

My reason for this is that I have very little interest in stories. I like engaging stories, but I do not care about most stories.

I am not sure if other people feel this way, but I almost never relate to the characters. Even when they are trying to be good, I can still see all the traits of a bad person under their skin.

This is why it does not matter how well the story is written, I will sometimes still hesitate to give an animated film or movie a chance because I do not want to invest time in something that will waste my time.

So instead of investing energy in a narrative, I enjoy stories where the main focus is really on the action. This makes me more likely to pick up books or play video games, both of which use strong narratives to function.

However, since I do not connect to many films, I think it is best for me to avoid making large investments unless the movie is truly unforgettable and/or character driven.

I only watch romantic movies

As much as I love action, adventure, comedy, and horror films, my favorite genre is romance. I will always give credit to Molly Windsor for changing that! She made me realize you can make a great movie without using any guns or violence!

I have a little rule when it comes to watching romances: I never watch one where the main characters spend more than two hours in each other’s company. Two hours is exactly how long it takes to create a relationship, so if the couple spends too much time apart, then the plot seems unnecessary.

It also turns into a cliché of really dramatic moments because the film would need to show lots of silence and no eye contact. I like a bit of both, but not enough to make the whole movie feel boring!

My favorite types of romance are thrillers (like The Note) and comedies with an underlying story line (Something Borrowed).
