With all of the talk about rising crime in Los Angeles, one area has received a lot of attention. That is east Hollywood. Some even refer to it as “Crime City” or "East Highland Avenue."
Many claim that there are too many fast food restaurants with large amounts of foot traffic and late night business. Others say that because there are so many people living close together, there is an overabundance of houses and apartments.
Some say that because there are not very many parks or green spaces, there is nowhere for residents to go for recreation. And some allege that since most locals work in either the entertainment industry or marketing, there is no way to know what goes on outside your own community.
One of the major arguments against this neighborhood being safe is due to its size. Many feel that it is too big to keep up with police protection. This could mean that it takes longer for officers to get here if something does happen.
Overall, there seems to be two opposing theories regarding why people choose to live in east Hollywood. One says that it is safer than other parts of town while the other claims the opposite.

It sounds crazy but it happens every day.
Many people live close to their jobs so they use public transportation as their main form of commute. Unfortunately, some individuals cannot seem to control their alcohol or drug addictions so bad that they need help.
They are unable to avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking or using drugs.
This is very dangerous for them and other commuters because it can potentially hurt or even kill them, others around them, or us (the drivers on the road).
It is important to spread an awareness about this issue by letting people know what trains, buses, and streets are safe during night times, days off, and holidays.

Many people believe that since “East Hollywood” is known for being expensive, it must be safe. Unfortunately, this isn’t always the case!
Many things can cause harm in an area, but not everyone lives there. For example, take the road trip I planned earlier this year. Since I was going to North Carolina, I would probably spend most of my time in either Raleigh or Charlotte so I only needed enough money for food and gas.
I never brought any kind of wallet with me because I don’t like carrying anything heavier than what I have to due to my back issues. Luckily, I didn’t need one once I arrived!
If you do decide to visit East Hollywood, make sure to keep your spending under control as well as your purse size.

If you want to enjoy the benefits of living in a beautiful area, then make sure to use common sense when outside and avoid walking alone at night.

A lot of people talk about “East Hollywood” as a safe area, but it can be unsafe for non-white people. While there are some lovely houses and apartments in this neighborhood, there is also a disproportionately high amount of police activity happening here.
There have been several instances where white people have reported harassment or assault by police officers in this community. This includes things like being pulled over in an unmarked car with no lights, having your face buried into the windows while someone points guns at you, and being told that your skin color made them feel threatened.
This isn’t just limited to racial minorities either - even if you’re not visibly black, they may still perceive you as such. We have heard stories from friends who were racially profiled in east Hollywood and had their property stolen during the ordeal.
