How the Grinch Stole Christmas

The Grinch, which was originally published in 1966 as a short story by author Dr. Seuss, is a holiday classic! In this movie, he goes around town trying to ruin people’s celebrations of Christmas by stealing things like gifts and decorations.

The main character, who is very cynical, comes across an unusual green nose ring that he decides to add to his collection. He quickly figures out how to take off the decoration, but not before it steals some warm fuzzy feelings from those around him.

As he puts away his new prize, he feels something strange coming towards him - his heart begins to beat faster. Before he knows what happens next, he realizes he has fallen in love with this tiny piece of jewelry.

He tries to get rid of it, but it only grows stronger inside of him every time he thinks about it. Eventually he gives up and leaves it behind at a charity shop where it belonged.

After the film ended, many fans took to social media to talk about their reactions to the ending. Some said they were too distracted by the romantic scene between the Grinch and his beloved nose ring to care about anything else.

Others commented that even though the Grinch won the war against Christmas, he lost in the end because he learned something important about friendship.

At the beginning of the movie, the Grinch wanted nothing more than to be left alone without anyone asking for his opinion or listening to it.

The Wonderful Thing About Grinches

While some may find the Grinch despicable, his main character trait is that he loves very much. He just doesn’t know it!
He believes that things are bad and worthless because of who says they are, not due to any true intrinsic quality or value.

The Grinch does this by rejecting all sorts of things- material goods, experiences, knowledge, you name it.

This isn’t necessarily a bad thing unless those things matter to you, and they probably don’t for most people.

If what you want is a toy then sure let someone else say that their toy is better than yours, but if you really like it then go ahead and play with it anyway.

Granted, it will feel pretty crappy while you are doing so, but at least you knew it was worth nothing to you before.

That same person could have easily said the same about anything you own, and now they have. You lose little except maybe a small amount of self-esteem, which almost everyone has something of sometimes.

It’s hard to maintain an attitude of superiority when there is no one around to tell you how great you are, and your inner child wants to know why everything in life must be fun for you otherwise something is wrong.

The moral here being that we often reject things that mean nothing to us.

Popular culture and the Grinch

The Grinch is one of the most recognizable characters in literary history. He has been featured in several novels, short stories, television episodes, and now an animated film!

The Grinch was first mentioned in A CHRISTMAS STORY by Jean Shepherd. In this story, he comes to town as part of Santa’s crew but does not get along with his coworkers very well. You can read our article here for more information on that book!

In the 2000 movie rendition of THE GRINCH, Jim Carey played the titular character. While some may consider him too comedic at times, he still delivered a powerful performance.

His characterization helped make the Grinch a beloved classic. Many people find his personality relatable however exaggerated it may be.

It also made for great entertainment when watching the movie. People laugh mostly due to how funny the Grinch is, not only because of what he says, but how he acts as well.

Popular culture and the Christmas spirit

The Grinch is a very interesting character. He represents something quite striking - an internal struggle that many people go through every year when winter comes around.

Winter is beautiful, but it can be difficult to enjoy it if you don’t feel connected to nature or community. This disconnection often happens because most of us live in densely populated areas with lots of cars, so there’s less space for natural beauty to shine - at least not without taking expensive trips.

It also doesn’t help that the media we are exposed to focus more on materialistic things like new gadgets and clothes, which are marketed as part of the holiday season.

So how do we celebrate the holidays when they seem to promote greed? Some people may even get upset about the overelaborate celebrations happening across social networks and the internet.

Luckily, there are other ways to connect with each other during this time. Many cultures have special traditions related to the winter solstice or christmas, such as eating foods shaped like trees or putting up decorations made from pine tree needles.

These practices exist because everyone knows about the symbolism of trees and why celebrating the winter solstice is important to some religions. But aside from those reasons, they just make for good fun entertainment!

If you want to learn more about these customs, you could start looking into them. Or maybe try making your own little winter-themed festivities to see what happens.

The Grinch is based on a true story

Many people’s favorite holiday movie, “The Grinch” is based on a very real life event that happened over twenty years ago. In fact, many claim it to be more accurate than some of the other stories about Santa Claus!

In 1941, during World War II, American soldiers stationed in Northern Italy noticed something strange happening around them. Almost every person they spoke to was talking about how much everyone loved the new Italian prime minister, Benito Mussolini. They said he was like a beloved king who made sure everything ran smoothly for the good of his country. People were even singing his praises at theaters across Italy where he had given a speech.

But as time went by, these same people began to talk less kindly of him. Some said things got worse under his rule, but then suddenly, just before the war, everything changed. He became more friendly. His popularity skyrocketed. And all because one individual gave away enough presents to make everybody else feel special.

The animation was amazing

‘The Grinch’ is one of those holiday films that almost everyone has at least heard of, if not seen. Almost every child grows up watching this heartwarming animated film about an ugly person who tries to convince all the other people in town to stop celebrating Christmas.

Most adults have also watched it at some point before getting back into college or working full time. It’s definitely worth your watch if you enjoy stories with moral lessons!

There are several reasons why ‘The Grinch’ is such a well-known movie. Let us look at them!

1) Setting and Characters

This is probably the most important part of any story. You should pay close attention to how clearly the writers establish setting and character. For example, in the case of ‘The Grinch’, we are very aware of what kind of environment the characters live in.

We know that these characters spend their days sitting around eating food and talking about the past. This setting gives us a context for understanding certain characters and situations.

For instance, when the main villain says something mean towards someone else, it makes sense because they lived in a place where nothing but bad things happened. They were hungry and thirsty due to no provisioning of resources, so they spoke poorly about others.

2) Theme

A key element of any good story is theme.

The voice actors were amazing

As we mentioned earlier, aside from Chris Pratt as the villain, every other major role was filled by an incredible actor or actress. They all brought their own unique flavor to these characters and made us love them more than ever before!

Seth Green’s Santa character is very serious and stern at times. He doesn’t say much, but when he does it comes across like he’s thinking about really hard things. His performance really resonated with me because I can relate to him sometimes.

Heidi Klum plays Mary Jane Watson in the movie; she is also quite passionate and energetic most of the time. She brings intensity and energy to her scenes with Peter.

Zachary Levi played Agent Coulson - he is smart, level-headed, and always knows what needs to be done. He inspired many people around him through his leadership qualities.

Melissa McCarthy gave one of our favorite performances this year as Angela Montenegro, the overbearing mother of Charlie.

The characters were well developed

The main characters in this film are very interesting. They all have distinct personalities and stories that play out throughout the movie. Each character comes off as realistic, even if they seem at times like their personality is totally one-dimensional. This makes for an entertaining watch because you get to explore different aspects of each person.

The antagonist of the movie is quite powerful and interesting. He does not like what the protagonist is doing, so he goes about trying to stop him. At times his actions may be violent or shocking, but it always works with the plot.

In terms of humor, there is plenty of laughter happening during various parts of the movie. Some scenes really set up funny moments so make sure to pay attention to those! There is also some clever use of humor, such as when the villain says something profound while lying down next to the moon.

Overall, the characters are extremely important to the success of the film. You will probably feel connected to them at least slightly which makes watching the movie more enjoyable.
