How They Film Animated Movies
Many people are familiar with animated movies, but they may not know how to describe them or what it is that makes up an animator. An artist who draws pictures of cute animals dancing around in circles is not necessarily involved in animation.
Animation comes from the Italian word lombardia which means “travelling quickly” or “riding fast.” This definition seems fitting for the way some animations seem to go very quickly.
Filmmakers use this term slightly differently. For them, animation refers to the process of creating drawings that appear to move naturally when displayed as a movie. These movements can be stills, smooth motion, or something in between depending on the film being made.
There are several different types of artists that work in the field of animation. A director usually starts the project by writing a script and then finding a producer to back the idea. The writer will also look for directors that share their vision and passion for the project.
After getting permission to start production, the next step is to find appropriate writers to contribute to the screenplay. Once written, the story must pass through review before filming begins. During this stage, there are many things such as voice acting professionals, screenwriters, and sometimes even graphic designers to be hired!
Once all materials have been gathered, the art department gathers up to create scenes and settings rich in detail. Background artists design landscapes, buildings, and other environments needed for the movie.
Production studios

A production studio is an organization that creates films or TV shows. These media projects are usually linked together in a series, with each film or episode dependent on the one before it. Films can be made at any time so long as they have their allotted amount of filming time.
Films are typically shot using a camera mounted onto a tripod or hand held depending on the style of movie being made. The same goes for television programs which use a lavalamp to light the scene while shooting.
The people working in this field are called filmmakers. Filmmakers are generally paid very well due to the nature of their job- they make lots of money!
All major feature length movies (those longer than 2 hours) are produced by a company called a studio. Studios produce their own material - these are referred to as ‘executive producer’s films’ because the person who produces them gets credit for doing so alongside someone else’s name.
A lot of smaller sized movies are also funded through a studio. This is known as a ‘film fund’ where investors give enough money to cover the cost of producing a movie. Some of these funds are for a specific genre such as action or comedy, whereas others are general.
These genres don’t matter too much when it comes to finding jobs as a filmmaker though, as there are always companies looking for new content in either case.
Art studios

Another way to make animated movies is by working with an art studio or production company. These companies create entire scenes or sequences, which you can then adapt and add your own special touches to.
There are many different types of artists who work in animation. Some paint, some draw, some design characters, etc. What’s really important about these people is that they are creative!
By having them put together a scene that you have written, their creativity will take over and it will look incredible!
This isn’t always the case though. Sometimes there are strict rules for how a character should be dressed, painted, etc. So sometimes things must be redesigned. This doesn’t usually cost too much extra money unless the original version was very expensive, but it does help save money later when you can use the already paid for assets.
Another thing that comes up quite a bit is trying to find props that match a certain style. For example, if a movie features a boat, you would need to find a boat somewhere. It may not be perfect, but it will do the job and save you time looking else where.
Writing studios

Another important part of movie making is writing studios, or as they are more commonly known, creative departments. These are typically made up of writers, directors, producers, and sometimes animators.
Writers write stories, which can be for television or feature films. Directors manage the story’s flow, and how to make it interesting to watch. Producers help find the money to make the film happen, such as through advertising or crowdfunding.
And finally, some people who work in this area direct themselves! This includes screenwriters, whose job is to come up with great storylines, and filmmakers, who oversee the overall process for the production of the movie.
These individuals all have different jobs that contribute to the success (or failure) of the final product. Some may get paid more than others, but everyone involved in the filmmaking business contributes something valuable to the project.
Editing studios

Another important part of movie making is editing. The editor changes shots and scenes to fit into the plot, create flow for the story, and enhance the narrative.
There are two main types of editors in film: those who edit using a digital camera or computer and those that use a large flat panel monitor as their tool.
The person editing through a camera usually uses very expensive equipment since they have to experiment with different angles and shutter speeds frequently. These people are paid more money because they require this high level of technology.
People that work as video editors on television use an LCD screen to organize and cut together clips. This is not too expensive due to it being rented rather than buying cost per hour.
Some positions ask for formal education beyond just renting monitors and computers so employees are trained professionally.
Visual development studios

Another way to make animated movies is through visual development or VFX companies. These artists create environments, characters, and other things such as vehicles for the movie.
Animators use these designs to build upon and add texture and depth to the scenes that are incorporated into the film.
Vehicles, space ships, dinosaurs, monsters, you name it! Companies like Pixar, Disney, and others have gotten really good at making beautiful looking worlds and creatures so they get paid very well.
But how do people who work in this field earn a living? What are the best ways to launch your career in VFX artistry?
Here are some of the top VFX careers for beginners - and even those with some experience.
Voice acting studios

While most of the movies you’ve seen have been without voice, almost every animated movie has at least one major character that people talk about. These characters are known as “voice actors.”
Voice actors work for an agency or company that represents their personal services. A lot of companies can afford to pay high wages due to the large amount of money they make from advertising while using these individuals’ voices.
Some examples of this include advertisements, video games, and feature films. Feature length films are what we refer to as animated movies!
Feature films usually take years to complete and require very expensive production costs. All of the other parts of the film (the setting, props, etc.
Financial health

All of those things contribute to how big or small an animator’s pay check is, but none more so than the second part of this equation: financial health. This includes having enough savings to cover living expenses for several months after you’re fired (or before you get hired again), as well as setting aside money for potential legal fees in case your contract isn’t renewed or if you need to file suit against your employer.
Most people start working in animation during what’s known as the “golden age of animation,” which typically runs from around 1990-2004. During that time, there were probably not too many times when someone didn’t have at least one friend who had been through almost every stage of employment in the industry.
Since most employers are slightly less generous with their benefits during the recession, I’d recommend being proactive about saving money by putting in place additional protections earlier rather than later. That means doing it before you enter into any agreements that could potentially limit your spending power.
