How To Do Hollywood Waves
Doing hair is a lot of work, which is why there are so many people that do it as a career! Hairstyling is a great way to make some money while also being able to experiment with different styles and looks.
However, before you start trying all sorts of hairstyles, one of the first things you should learn is how to do a perfect wave. A classic hairdo that every person knows is the beach-wave or “brahma”-style haircut.
Not only does this look beautiful, but doing it right takes very little time! In this article, we will show you how to give yourself a beach-wave easily.
Make a small section of your hair slightly damp

Now, for the most part, you will want to do this at night when your hairstyler can watch you use the same length piece of scalp tissue every time! This way, she or he can get a good idea of how to repeat the pattern in order to create that perfect wave shape.
However, if you are able to do it during the day, then better luck for you! We have some very simple tips here that may help you achieve that beautiful, long waving look.
The first thing is to make sure your hair is completely dry. If it’s not yet fully dried, run your hand through it briefly just to see if it’s soft and flaky free of any lotion or gel.
Wrap your scarf or the flat iron around your hair

For the next wave, start at one side of your scalp and wrap your scarf or barber roll around your hair. Make sure it is tight enough so that when you pull up the bottom, there are no holes!
Then pull up slowly using the band as support. When the top comes away, you will see a beautiful, soft wave!
Reminder: To create more volume in your waves, add small touches like pin curls or large curling irons.
Figure out where you want the wave to start

The first step in doing a professional looking beach hair look is figuring out where you want your initial waves to begin. This can be done by choosing either low or high buns, collars, or other hairstyle features that require a bit of waves.
A common way to create an ombre effect is starting with one area of your hair that is slightly lighter than the rest and then rolling it up or pulling it down as it grows. By doing this, the lightest section will win against the darker hairs around it!
You can also do roll-up looks at the front or back, just make sure to pull them tight so they hold their shape well.
Hold your hair up in the position you want your wave to start in
Most people use their fingers to do this, but there is an easier way! A great trick is using the back of a comb or a brush. Simply place it along the length of the waves as they get started so that it does not push all of the loose hairs down.
This helps keep some of the bounce so that your finished look has more shape. The muscles can be used to pull the ends down if needed too!
And for those who have very thick hair, then holding onto longer sections may help create the same effect. Just make sure to cut off the bottom layer earlier so it does not weigh down the rest of the wave.
General tips - when doing long hairstyles, take your time and stay organized! Pull out each section and work slowly towards the goal at times.
Slowly move the hair-drying tool or scarf down the length of your hair

Now, for the most part, you will use your fingers to hold your hair as you roll it up. But for very long hairs (or really thick ones), having a comb or brush can make rolling your wave much easier!
A good way to do this is to first dry your hair completely, then using a wide-tooth comb, pull some parts of the rolls out. Once that’s done, apply glue to the back of the rolled section and stick it onto the rest of the roll.
Keep an eye on your hair while it dries

When your hair is wet, keep an eye on it! While some people tend to roll their hair up or put it in a bun as it dries, not all hairstyles work with this approach. The best way to do beach waves is by holding onto each section of your hair as it dries!
This is called dry-docking. Starting at the front, pull out a small chunk of hair and pin it back using either clip-on clips or bobby pins.
When your hair is completely dry, remove the tool or scarf and gently pull on your hair to loosen the wave

The way we do this depends on what kind of waves you want! For example, if you would like more natural looking curls, then take off the curling iron as soon as it has a chance to set its curl, and use your hands to quickly pull up on your hair in several places. Then let go and repeat until all parts of your hair are relaxed and shaped slightly-curled.
Gather up your hair into a high ponytail

Now, take one large section of hair and slowly lower it down towards the floor. As you do this, make sure to keep the top part tight! When it reaches the floor, aslo pull out all the pieces and set them aside. This is now your poof or wave area!
To create the most beautiful waves, use either rollers or hand clippers to achieve the perfect drop. Using rollers will cost less money but may not give you the best look. That being said, using hand clippers will cost more money, but they are much better in quality.
Once both are done, let the waves grow dry! Depending on how fast your hairs grows back, that could take anywhere from 1-2 days! Once it’s fully dried, put some gel in your hands and spread it through your curls.
