How To Get A Star On The Hollywood Walk Of Fame
The 2017 ceremony will take place in March, so you have time to start preparing! If you’re already registered as an honorary member or donor, great! You are ready to go!
If you are not yet registered, that is okay too because there is still time to register. The registration process closes at 5 p.m. PT on December 16, 2016. Make sure to do it soon!
Some things to consider before registering include if you can attend the event, how much money you want to donate, and whether you would like to be recognized by name or contribution.
Prepare your application

Before you even approach an official with the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce about having your name put onto the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you need to make sure all of your applications are complete!
This includes proof of identity, proof of residence (for the neighborhood in which you want to be honored) and evidence that you have lived at your current address for at least two years - it is not enough to live somewhere simply because you can say you do.
You will also need to provide proof of payment of your organization’s dues as well as certification that you meet the qualifications set forth by the community committee that reviews and votes on new members.
These qualification requirements include at least five good examples of professional work and/or significant contributions to the entertainment industry, but they must be verifiable!
It is very difficult to take someone’s word for it when they claim to know you, so make sure to showcase your talents through documents, videos or photographs.
Create a business plan

Before you even begin applying for your star, you will need to create a business plan! This is an important step as it gives us insight into how you would run your potential celebrity career.
You should include things such as: what area of entertainment you want to be in, what kind of media you like to use to promote yourself, what type of marketing strategies work best for you, etc.
By having this information, we can tell if your idea is realistic and if it could succeed or not. It also helps determine whether or not someone else has done something similar and failed so that you can find alternative ways to make it successful.
Furthermore, most people who get a walker do some sort of charity event or promotion related to their field soon after they are inducted. By knowing ahead of time what types of events you enjoy doing and what charities are relevant to yours, we can help prepare you fro these opportunities.
Confirm your eligibility

The first step towards getting a star is confirming that you are eligible! Only people who have been honored with the title of “Legend” or “Artist” can apply for a walkway dedication, so make sure you check out if you meet their criteria before moving onto the next steps.
The deadline to apply as an artist is three years after your induction, while the deadline as a legend is two years - however, there is no limit to applying as a member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.
Once you have confirmed your eligibility, the next thing you will need to do is gather some materials and proof of your artistic career. This includes examples of writing, art, and music, as well as photographs and videos which show off your work. Make sure to include these in both professional and non-professional settings!
After this, it's time to pick where you would like to be honored with your artwork and why. You don't want to choose somewhere that is totally irrelevant, so think about what made you famous and what makes you continue to succeed in the field of art today.
Receive your star

After you have paid your registration fee, applied for recognition through The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce’s online application system, and received confirmation that your nomination has been accepted, it's time to actually receive your walk-up movie!
The next step is requesting permission to access the location where your star will be installed. This process varies from year to year and organization to organization, so check with the chamber directly to make sure yours allows media to visit during installation times.
Once approved, the staff in charge of installing stars meet up at least a week before the event to pick out their appropriate surface area for the plaque and determine if any decorations are allowed in surrounding areas.
After this preparation stage, the professionals break down all equipment and materials needed and lay out the shape and size of the plaques bed very carefully to ensure it does not shift or move after being set into the cement. When everything is ready, they cover the whole thing in white powder and wait for it to dry.
When the plaster is hard enough, they pack away all decorations and tools and apply a protective layer which only comes off using strong chemicals and brushes certified by the government as safe for touching plastic or metal objects.
Last but definitely not the least, the professional writers and artists who will create and write your plaque do some photo research to find the best possible pictures of yourself for your dedication and to confirm that no inappropriate photos exist.
Enroll your star in the Hollywoodland Registry
The next step is to register yourself or someone you know as an applicant for the walkway. This process is free, but requires you to provide your name, contact information, and proof of identity such as a driver’s license or passport (make sure it says “invalidated from being expired” not just “expired”).
You will also need to pay a $50 application fee per person unless you are paid under the SAG-AFTRA constitution, in which case there is no application fee. You can also apply as a friend or family member if they have registered already, though their fees cannot be refunded.
Enjoy your star

After paying their dues, individuals are allowed to apply to be considered for the honor of having a star placed on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The process is very competitive as not everyone is able to fulfill the eligibility requirements needed to become a member. But once you do, enjoy your star!
Most people begin planning for their star around one year after being nominated. During this time, there are many opportunities to meet others in the entertainment industry, show off your achievements, and promote yourself or someone else.
There are even organized events where fans can celebrate with their favorite stars.
Share your star with your friends and family

After you have gathered enough materials to make your candidacy, you must share this information with people close to you. Make sure to include all members of the committee that will be voting on your nomination as well as anyone who may benefit from knowing it!
This can be done in many ways. You can post about it on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter, send out emails, put up posters and flyers, or even run an article about it in a local paper.
