How To Get From Downtown La To Hollywood
Finding transit routes is an integral part of any urban exploration session. Most major cities have some form of public transportation, so it’s not necessary to take taxis or private cars in order to get around!
Many people start exploring by taking the bus but there are many different types of buses that cater to various needs. Some only run at certain times while others will drop you off anywhere within their service area.
Some even connect to other services like light rail or train lines! By using these services effectively, your trip can be much more efficient and cost-effective than if you were relying solely on mass transit.
Fortunately, Google Maps has built-in tools to help you find all of this information! This article will go over several ways to get from downtown Los Angeles to Hollywood via Metro and other popular modes of transport.
Walk to the corner of La Brea and Hollywood boulevards
If you live in west or south Los Angeles, there are two easy ways to get from downtown to Hollywood. The first is to take the bus, which will drop you off anywhere along this route!
The second way is by walking down either La Brea Street or nearby streets like Melrose Place, Van Nuys Boulevard, or Sunset Boulevard.
When traveling eastbound on Hollywood or northbound on Figueroa, you can easily connect to the Red Line at the Century Park station. And when traveling westbound on Figueroa, you can easily connect to the Green or Purple Lines at the Vermont/Laurel Station.
Ride the Hollywood/Highland bus
The best way to get around downtown Los Angeles is by taking the bus! There are many different routes that connect all of the major sites, and some buses have their own unique features or benefits.
One such feature is called Transit Passports. These can be purchased for either one day use or monthly use, and they allow you access to both the Metro Bus Line Network and private transportation services (like Uber). This is very helpful as it gives people another option to get around town.
There are three main lines in this network: Gold, Platinum, and Tourist passes. All of these pass types offer free transfers at any station so you do not need to buy tickets again! For example, if you take the #110 bus line from Century Boulevard and Vermont Avenue, you will transfer to the #151 bus line in Cheviot Hills. Both of those run along Santa Monica Boulevard.
The Gold Ticket allows you unlimited rides within zone 1 which includes airport area and parts of Universal Studios and City of Angels. The platinum ticket gives you unlimited rides within zones 2 and 3 which include areas like west LA, Westwood, Beverly Hills, etc. And the tourist ticket only covers part of the city- more limited than the other two.
Take a taxi
Taking public transportation is not your best bet if you want to get somewhere in Los Angeles quickly. The traffic can be unbearable, there may not be enough seats for everyone, and it’s expensive! If you do choose this option, make sure you know how to tell which buses are reliable and which ones are not.
There are several different types of taxis in LA, so what works for one might not work for another. Some cabs will add a surcharge to take you across town, while others stay within a set budget. It’s always better to go with a few regulars than risk taking a random cab at night!
If you feel comfortable doing so, ask around to see if anyone knows of any good routes or shortcuts. This is especially important during busy times, like when you’re going from downtown to Hollywood or vice versa. By knowing where all the popular hangouts are, you’ll save time searching for them!

Plan your route ahead of time

Try new restaurants
One of my favorite ways to enjoy Los Angeles is by trying out different types of eateries. You can spend your money for food here or you can try somewhere close by where you live that makes great dishes so that you don’t feel too expensive when you go there.
There are many excellent downtown, restaurant districts in LA. The area around Grand Avenue and Figueroa Street has some really good Mexican cuisine as well as Middle Eastern foods. There are also lots of vegetarian-focused spots if that’s what you prefer.
I recommend giving yourself a one month trial at least once to see how things taste and whether or not you like them before deciding to be a frequent visitor or supporter. (You never know; you might love it!)
If you’re still undecided after the 30 days have elapsed, find another day to visit this time during lunch hours when fewer people will notice if you leave early.
Make a night of it
It’s always better in trunks than not, but there are ways to make this event more practical. If you live in an area with easy access to public transportation or have a car that is good for one-way trips, you can do something like take the bus down to The Grove and back while keeping your car for later!
The same goes if you don’t mind walking. You can stroll through Beverly Hills, maybe grab some coffee at Fig & Olive before heading home.
Be aware of your surroundings
While staying in or traveling downtown is a great way to be close to the city’s hustle and bustle, it also means there are a lot more people around.
Making sure you are safe can sometimes feel like a uphill battle. One of the most important things about safety while traveling is being aware of your environment and what is going on around you.
It’s very easy to get distracted by the activity happening around you which makes it hard to focus on your own personal safety. Stay focused on your priorities and don’t let distractions take over!
Make sure to keep an eye out for others, ask yourself if someone looks out of place or if something seems off then make sure to pay attention and/or report it to security or police immediately.
