Having a portfolio, or examples of work you've done, is a great way to showcase your talent and draw attention. People also use blogs, Twitter, and Facebook to promote themselves.
Third, what types of platforms are needed to network with others? You should have a profile on each of these so that you can actively engage with users and grow your exposure. Some of the best starting points are YouTube, Instagram, and Snapchat.
