How To Play Rhythm Of Love On Guitar

Addison Smith

Learning how to play rhythm guitar is one of the most fundamental things you can do as a guitarist. There are many ways to learn how to play rhythm guitar, but none of them are totally unique to who taught him or her.
As a beginner, it’s important to recognize that not everyone learns rhythm in the same way. Some use their ears more than fingers, while others feel more comfortable using their hands. What works for you will too once you find your stride!

There are two main types of rhythms when playing guitar: syncronized and free-floating. Syncronized rhythms have a clear start and stop, like a verse or an example given above. Free-floating rhythms don’t have this constraint, which makes them easier to create since you don’t need to know when the next note is going to be.

This article will go over some easy songs that are mostly syncronicity, but also include some very simple rhymes that use free form chords.

Analyze the rhythm of the song

A lot of people start playing guitar by learning how to play individual notes, but this is not enough! You have to know how to play some sort of pattern or sequence also known as a chord or rhythm.

Playing chords is already quite advanced, so we will focus more on the rhythm part here! The term ‘rhythm’ can be confusing though. It can either refer to what time it is in a piece (for example, there is an eight-beat phrase followed by a six-beat one), or it can refer to the underlying structure that makes up each bar (like the ones mentioned before).

This article will use the second definition for the word because it applies directly to music! That means we will look at some basic rhythms and how to play them using your left hand only.

Learn the rhythm of the song

The second part of learning how to play an instrument is figuring out what key the music is in and which notes make up that key. In this case, the key is A major!

A note in music is referred to as a pitch. There are eight pitches in each octave, or group of three notes. Starting at one pitch and moving down one tone makes another pitch (think di-re-mi-do). Moving up one tone creates a higher pitched note (ai-di-sol-la).

By nature, humans have a sense of time. We know when it is early morning and when it is late night, so we recognize that some things happen later than others. This concept applies to music. Some songs go faster than other songs because they have more stressed and unstressed beats.

Stressful Beats occur within a short amount of time while an unwinded beat occurs over longer periods of time. When talking about stress and relaxation of the body, a healthy number is 10 seconds per minute. For example, if there was a song with a very quick pulse then you could choose any two adjacent bars and do a slow breathing exercise with them. The first bar would be a 2nd measure line and the second a 1st measure line.

The easiest way to learn the rhythm of the song is by listening to the song several times and doing both regular timing and dotted timing.

Practice playing the rhythm of the song

A lot of people start learning how to play guitar by first trying to pick out the notes that go into a chord or get some simple licks going. Both are great approaches, but sometimes it is harder to put those pieces together.

That’s why there are many ways to learn the rhythm of a song! You can practice picking out the rhythm for a few chords or songs, or you could try practicing one part of the music at a time and putting it all together.

Whatever method feels most natural to you will help you master the rhythm of a song faster! There are several good resources available online and in books to teach you how to do this.

Use an amp with effects

In your rhythm guitar playing, you will often times use special equipment that has features or functions to enhance what you are trying to do.

Amp models such as those mentioned above have settings and features that help make your music sound better!

Effects like reverb, distortion, modulation, and others all add to this by changing how the notes sounds. Some even create new note patterns and structures when used in combination.

Use your favorite guitar pick

The first thing you need to do is choose your guitar pick! There are many types of picks that people use for rhythm playing, and they all look different. Some have pointed or sharp ends, while others are flat. It does not matter which type of pick you use as long as you are comfortable with it!

You can also add trills to your picking by sliding one edge of the pick up and down the string. This must be done slowly and smoothly otherwise it will lose its effect.

There are three main beats in any song. They are the kick-beat, the snare-beat, and the bass-beat. Each of these beats has a specific note that plays most frequently during the time frame of the beat. These notes are called the percussive notes.

The percussive notes for the kick-, snare-, and bass-beats are the fifth fret, the third fret, and the root, respectively. You can play those notes at full speed or half speed depending on the song.

With practice, you can learn how to play some really cool riffs using only the percussive notes! If you want more inspiration, check out our article here: How To Pick Rhythms With Only Percussion Notes.

Find a friend that loves music as much as you do

Finding your rhythm guitar style is more about finding what works for you than having a clear vision of how you want it to look.

It’s like dancing, really! You can’t expect to pick up dance moves unless you are able to move your feet. The same goes for playing the guitar. You will never know where your rhythm chords will take you until you start experimenting with them.

You will also need someone who knows music well to be supportive and encouraging when you try new things. They must understand that you will probably make lots of mistakes but that is okay! Keep practicing and working on your craft if you want to see progress.

Music theory is very helpful in helping you develop your rhythm skills. There are many styles of music that use concepts such as modes or tritone substitution (also known as augmented second). By learning these, you can create your own unique rhythms and licks that go along with them.

Relate to your friends when they sing

When you are learning how to play rhythm guitar, one of the first things you should do is relate to what people already know. What songs have they taught you? What styles have they introduced into music that you now like or recognize?

What types of chords and melodies have you learned? Add some new pieces to this set by practicing along with these tunes. Once you feel comfortable playing them, add your own twists to make it yours!

You can also learn about rhythms and their patterns. There are many ways to approach timing in music, so explore all of them until you find one that feels natural to you.

And while there are lots of methods to practice rhythm, I recommend starting with something easy. Try picking out the foot of a bar-meter pattern using an acoustic bass chord as your guide.

Enforce fun in the situation

When playing rhythm guitar, your hands will be moving constantly. Your feet must as well! This can become very tedious if you are not having fun doing it. Make the experience more enjoyable by creating a setting or environment that is relaxed and fun.

Music should make you feel happy, so use music that makes you smile and learn songs that have catchy melodies. If you’re ever feeling stressed or overwhelmed, find a song that brings you down and then add some syncopation to the melody and see what happens.

You can also choose to play using simple chords instead of complex ones.
