How To Write Your Own Movie Script

Addison Smith

Now, that might seem daunting at first, especially if you have never written a script before and just read a couple to figure out what you want to write, but it's pretty easy. The number one thing you need to know is that you can't write a script.

Someone else has to write your screenplay.

Before you start writing, you need to know a few things.

  • What Are The Goal And The Objective Of Your Film?
  • What do you want people to say about your film?
  • What do you want them to feel after watching it?

These are some of the most basic elements of your script. That's why they're at the top.

If you don't have a clear vision for your film and what it's trying to accomplish, then you can't possibly know how it will be received.

Now, it might seem counterintuitive at first to know what your film's purpose and objective is, but in order to come up with a script that people actually want to see, you need to know what you're trying to accomplish.

When the elevator doors open, the potential client wants to know:

What does your company do? What kind of talent or employees do you have?

How can I best benefit from your business?

As a business owner, these are the questions you are expected to answer when speaking to a new client. This is what you do to get them to invest in your business, so the elevator pitch you use must make sense.

If you are not comfortable coming up with answers to these questions, you are in trouble. If you don’t have answers, you are in trouble.

For me, writing a great script would help solve the problem.

The premise of a movie script must make sense in a world with action, thrills, comedy, and romance. As a business owner, you want to leave your prospect with a satisfied feeling when they leave. You need a script that delivers this feeling.

Below are six tips to help you write your own movie script.

1. Use effective words. Use strong words.

Choose strong words and phrases in your script. To sell a business, you need to impress people with your intellect.

Using big words and phrases will create an image in people’s minds.

A great movie script may use big words. They use them because the characters are thought to be smart and complex.

However, you can choose different words that reinforce your business.

For example, when I talk to a prospect, I usually say, “I am very good at a certain skill, and I need people like you to hire me.”

I do not use very big words, so it is easy for the prospect to understand.

2. Be descriptive

Describe your business in vivid terms. Write a good screenplay by relating your business to reality.

If your screenplay is about a rock band, you might say that the band was really good. Or, describe how the band made a name for themselves. Or, tell the audience what they looked like.

3. Express the protagonist’s motivation

A story is always about characters. They motivate themselves, and they motivate others.

In a movie, it is the story.

In your screenplay, think about what the protagonist wants most. This motivates the protagonist to do what is necessary to get what he wants.

4. Come up with a conflict

Characters must always have a conflict, which causes them to act. The protagonist’s desire causes conflict with others.

There must always be a conflict to make the story interesting and suspenseful.

To motivate the protagonist to succeed, the antagonist must always oppose him. The antagonist is the problem to be solved. In most cases, there is a new plan for dealing with the problem, which causes the conflict.

5. Use surprising dialogue

Use dialogue that surprises people. Discuss the plans, sayings, and deeds of the characters in the script.

Make them sound smart. You want to challenge the character to think about what he is saying.

For example, when I ask a prospect if they have any questions about my company, I am not sure what he will say.

If I write a script for a movie, I can surprise him with a conversation about the future of the business.

Make it surprising and fun.

6. Use your ability to relate to your audience.

You must write a script that is engaging. Your audience must be captivated by the story you are telling.

You must know what it is like to be in their shoes. They must want to experience the story for themselves.

For example, if I write a script for a rock band, I could give them the inspiration to form their band.

I could also show them how to write their songs. The audience could be amazed.

There is no better way to learn what it is like to be a leader than to experience it for yourself.
