How's The Weather In Hollywood Florida

Addison Smith

The weather has been very interesting this winter! We have had our share of warm days, cold nights, and lots of rain. This is totally normal for Florida!

Winter in Southern California can be quite dramatic. There are frequent temperature changes due to wind gusts or heavy rainfall. An average day here will usually start with sun and some light winds before a strong front moves through bringing cooler air.

The beach area around South Beach and Aventura is known for its beautiful scenery during the spring and summer seasons. Unfortunately, that seems to have come to an end now as most beaches are closed until at least April or May.

It is important to know what types of clothing are needed for the different situations we may encounter while exploring the great state of Florida. If you are looking to spend time outside, make sure you are prepared!

What should I pack?

Here are some helpful tips about how to survive the next few months in sunny Florida! First off, bring an umbrella or invest in a cheap one so you do not have to worry too much about getting wet.

Second, dress in layers! You can take them off if the weather gets warmer, or put them back on if it gets colder. Many people use short sleeves as their first layer to save some warmth.

Third, dress in neutral colors such as black, gray, tan, cream, etc.

It's too hot for my liking

This past week has been particularly bad as we've seen temperatures rise above 30 degrees every day! I can't remember the last time that happened, but it is possible to have an extremely hot weekend here in south Florida.

On Sunday, our weather team predicted highs of 40 degrees so many people were outside enjoying the sunshine while some workers made lunch at home due to there being no way they could eat during the workday.

By late afternoon though, the temperature rose just enough to make going out impossible unless you like warm wet clothes. By around 5 p.m., most restaurants had their outdoor seating areas closed until the next season because guests could be exposed to water dripping from the roofs or steam coming off the tables and chairs.

It was a beautiful sunset, but not many people enjoyed it since it was surrounded by large windows and lots of thirsty others. On top of that, these windows are usually covered up with plastic wrap at night to keep cool, making it even more difficult to enjoy the scenery.

Winter is officially here in Southern California! If your winter style does not include furry coats, wool socks, and warm blankets, then you are very close. Luckily, we have some helpful tips for all of these things so stay tuned!

If your loved one’s place is surrounded by lots of plants, there may be ways they can use those leaves to keep warm. Many people burn wood or dried plant material to start a fire, but why not make it more efficient? You can soak the leftover foliage in water and see if it will produce any foam. The longer the leaf touches the water, the thicker the froth that comes out. Use this foam as kindling to help light the fire even more efficiently!

Another way to heat up is by rubbing two pieces of smooth surface plastic together. This works because friction generates energy which heats up the materials involved. We recommend picking a thin sheet between five and ten feet long to do the most good.

There's a hurricane

The weather has been pretty interesting here at our home away from home, Planet M! It all started with some thunderstorms earlier this week, then we had some heavy rain later in the day. That is when I noticed something was off though- there were no clouds to be seen anywhere!

It took me a few minutes to realize what was going on but once I did it was kind of shocking! You see, the sun was setting behind a wall of bright lightning and haze that stretched across most of South Florida.

At first, I thought someone must have left their window open or there could be an air leak somewhere so some of the ozone got sucked out instead of getting absorbed by the atmosphere. But nothing seemed wrong so I assumed my guess was correct and it was just the way the sun set every night around here!

The next morning, those oozy patches of fog made for some cool pictures. Unfortunately, it also meant that everyone you spoke to couldn't actually see very well because everything was obscured. Thankfully, people didn't seem too bothered by that as they usually are during such events.

There's a flood

This past week has been something of a water-filled frenzy for those living in or traveling to Southern California! Rain is not typically a very fun thing, but this rain seems different. It's raining heavily at times, it's coming down hard, there are no signs of letup.

When we're talking about flooding in southern California, that usually means rivers rise due to all of the rainfall. When they reach their highest level ever recorded, then some serious river channeling and creek jumping occurs.

This isn't the case with our recent rains though. These floods seem much more inland oriented. Areas that were once dry are now underwater!

We've got rising rivers, flooded streets, and tons of muddy water everywhere you look. If you live or work in one of these areas, be sure to check out the Flood Warnings from your local government before actually doing anything else.

These warnings don't necessarily mean that evacuations will occur soon, but it does give you an idea of how severe the situation is already. Don't take any chances when money and time are both limited.

Hopefully everyone affected by this disaster gets help quickly and thoroughly.

There's a tornado

It has been an interesting week for those living in or traveling to Southern California! On Sunday, May 19, there was an outbreak of tornadoes that hit several areas across the state. Luckily, no one was injured and most homes were left with minor damage.

While this is not typically something people worry about during spring break, it does bring attention to how powerful these storms can be. Since March 21, there have been 12 confirmed tornadic events within 250 miles of Los Angeles. Nine of these occurred over the past two days alone!

Given the amount of rainfall we’ve seen so far this month, rivers are rising rapidly which could potentially cause flooding. While some may consider this fun, others may want to stay away from any water activities until later in the season.

It is important to remain informed about weather conditions by reading reputable sources. Websites such as KABC, Fox 11, and our own here at SpaceCityLA give you detailed information about the area and what is happening around the world.

It's snowing

The weather has been incredible this week! This past weekend we experienced our first major winter storm of the season, which left many areas under large amounts of snow. Thankfully, it only lasted a few days making for some beautiful pictures!

On Sunday night, there was an inch of snow reported at Palm Beach International Airport, with up to three inches possible across southern Broward County. Luckily, that is not too far from where I live so I wasn’t overly concerned about if or how I would be able to get home!

However, it did bring quite the interesting conversation around whether or not people should drive during the snowstorm because it could potentially cause more accidents due to drivers becoming disoriented or even stranded. Obviously, safety comes first, but what are your rights when you are being asked to stay put?

I know from experience that once the snow starts to fall, it can quickly stick to everything including windows, cars, and roofs. When that happens, it is very difficult to see clearly outside unless there is strong light coming through, nor can you determine if someone else will make it out safely in their vehicle.

So, while it may not be safe to go out, it also probably isn't either, at least not until the roads have melted down a bit.

It's raining

The weather has been very unpredictable lately due to hurricane Dorian, which is why it’s hard to predict what will happen with filming for any given show. Some shows have already resumed production like Gotham where they are shooting outside, but most major productions have been suspended until at least September.

Many actors and filmmakers spend weeks or even months of their career depending on how well-connected they are to the media so being able to work during this time can really help them get new jobs. Most people I talk to feel pretty confident that we’ll eventually see some sort of a season three for Almost Famous, but no one knows when that will be!

For those who do know about reassembling a crew, there are sometimes opportunities for extras or small roles as things start up again. You never know if someone might need an extra hand or if they’re looking for someone special so keep your eyes open.

It's cloudy

The weather has been very unpredictable here at Disney, with many changes happening every day. One minute it will be sunny or clear with some light rain, then suddenly it is dark and rainy and there is no sign of sun.

It looks like we are getting our first taste of spring here! Unfortunately, though, this means that winter is coming to an end.

We have now entered Spring when temperatures rise and people begin thinking about warm seasons clothes. If you're looking to spend less money but want nice fashionable clothing, your best bet is early spring. Clothing stores and online sites can still find all sorts of cool fashion pieces.

Beauty salons may even be able to do some quick spring cleaning for you if you're into that.
