Is Los Santos Based On Los Angeles
Let’s be clear about one thing up front - yes, Los Santos is heavily inspired by real life locations. However, that doesn’t mean that it is a direct copy-paste of them!
Los Santos is an entirely new fictional city built under the guidance of creative director Raphael Assouly and producer Erik Osearzabal. They have both lived in LA for many years now so they know all of the cool spots in the area well.
Furthermore, while some elements may look similar to other parts of the United States, like downtown Chicago or New York City, most of these details are not actually used directly as models.
This article will try to dive into the similarities between Los Santos and the surrounding areas of Southern California, and how this influenced the game. If you want to learn more about why this is important, keep reading!

There are many differences

While there have been some comparisons drawn between GTA V and real-life locations, they’re not very accurate. Some of these similarities are so strong that they distort the game into having an unrealistic setting.
The most common one is comparing San Francisco with San Diego. The two cities are separated by water, but only in this comparison do you include the ocean as part of the city. You also need to take into account how expensive it would be to live close to the beach in California compared to Nevada.
Another example is putting New York City next to Chicago or Detroit because of the skyscrapers. This isn’t realistic at all since such buildings require large amounts of natural resources and heavy investment. Also, none of those other cities have a river running through them!
There are no famous landmarks like the Empire State Building or Willis Tower in Grand Theft Auto, nor are there any tall mountains or hills. These things are crucial for defining a place and creating unique environments, so they make the games look less authentic.
We also can’t just use money to determine if a place is rich or poor. A wealthy area wouldn’t be surrounded by empty spaces and average houses, it would be filled with multimillion dollar mansions.
There are many similarities

While there is no official confirmation, it is heavily implied that the game takes place in America. This includes locations such as California, Florida, New York, and several other states. The setting also seems to be more than just one city as some parts of the country are featured.
This article will talk about all of these similarities and how important they are for the story. It will also discuss some theories on what the game may or may not be.
There are many locations in Los Santos that are based on real life locations

Some people may claim that Los Santos is not really based on anywhere because they say there are no references to any other cities or areas within the game. This seems like a very vague argument since it could be said about most video games!
Most gamers recognize certain settings, environments, and landmarks from their past experiences with gaming. Whether or not these similarities are important to you as a gamer depends mostly on your personal style of gameplay.
For some players, understanding where the settings and characters come from helps make sense of the story-line, gives them more context for what’s happening, and/or provides additional inspiration for how to play the game.
For others, this kind of knowledge can be completely irrelevant and even hinder their experience by making them feel self-conscious or uncomfortable. You should choose to actively engage with media depending on your values and preferences as an individual.
There are many celebrities in Los Santos

As we have seen so far, The GTA Series is set in an open-world environment where you can go anywhere at any time. This includes exploring the city of Los Santos and other areas such as rural settings or beach locations!
One area that has received some attention in recent games is how popular certain landmarks and properties have become. For example, look up “McDonald’s” on Google and you will see pictures and videos of people eating there!
This got us thinking - if someone made a restaurant out of every well known place or property, then what would it be? We decided to create one for our favorite setting in the series: Los Santos!
So here you will find all of the famous buildings, landscapes, and attractions from the game transformed into restaurants with special features designed to represent them.
There are many famous brands in Los Santos

In fact, there are so many references to real life locations and companies that it is almost impossible not to recognize them when you play the game. This includes landmarks such as The House of Blues, Hard Rock Cafe, Planet Hollywood, and more!
There are also several well known corporations represented in-game such as Rat Race Players Association (RRPA), Vespucci Corporation, HeiCorp Systems, and Morelli Family Trucking among others. All of these firms exist in the real world and some even have interactive pages dedicated to their business or products on Google. You will find their logos and information about how they operate where people can learn more about them!
Furthermore, the developers include small references to other companies and individuals which adds even more authenticity to the experience. For example, one of the most recognizable characters in GTA Online is Carl Johnson, a retired police officer who later goes into private security work. His character has been interpreted many times by different artists and designers, and his likeness and personality have inspired many.
This article will talk more about those similarities, why it’s important, and what you can do if you feel like you were influenced.
There are many famous landmarks in Los Santos

Some say that Los Santos is inspired by real life locations while others believe it to be completely made up. But what most people don’t know is that some aspects of the game were directly taken from the city where video games were created!
The creators of Grand Theft Auto V knew very well how popular The City was as they incorporated several into their virtual world. These include familiar sites such as the Hollywood Sign, Rodeo Drive, and Griffith Park.
However, some didn’t make it into the final version of the game. One thing that wasn’t used was Santa Monica Pier which is probably for the best since it closed down back in 2015.
But even though it was left out, there are still plenty of similarities between the two.
There are many sports in Los Santos

Football is very popular here, just like it is in America. The working title of the game was Afton Stadium before it was officially changed to Grand Theft Auto V. This didn’t stop people from referring to it as LOSSASTAN!
Basketball is also quite well known, with some courts being modeled off real life ones. What isn’t clear however, is whether or not this version has hoops instead of nets.
Soccer seems to be the most common sport, with lots of different teams and leagues existing. Sadly though, there aren’t any actual football (or soccer) fields anywhere in-game.
Football is pretty easy to get into, even if you don’t have much knowledge of the game.
There are many restaurants in Los Santos

As we have seen, The Beach is one of the biggest gathering spots for people in Grand Theft Auto V. However, there are not just one but several different types of dining establishments you can visit while playing as Franklin or Trevor.
There are greasy spoons that offer cheap snacks and drinks, italian bistros with fancy decorations and expensive food, sushi bars, steak houses, fast-food chains, and more!
Many of these places are represented in GTA Online by either an island or city where you can go to find them. For example, if you search “Italian Bistro” in the game, you will be taken to a map containing all sorts of Italian cuisine locations across America!
This article will talk about some similarities between Los Santos and real life cities such as San Francisco and New York.
