Its Pho Hollywood Menu

Addison Smith

If you’re looking for some authentic Vietnamese cuisine, look no further than pho or “pho” as it is commonly referred to. This classic soup is made of rice noodles in rich broth with meat, veggies, and spices.

The best-quality broths are made from chicken bones that have been simmered down for several hours until all the collagen has melted into the liquid. Then, these cooked down juices are mixed together and infused into the broth.

Many people add fresh herbs and flavorings to make their broth more diverse, but the truth is - they can totally take it out! The most important factor is having quality ingredients.

Pho is a popular dish in America, so there are many variations of toppings and extras you can find at restaurants. Some opt for chicken breast instead of ground beef, while others choose crispy shallots over soft ones.

Some like to use sriracha sauce instead of hoisin sauce because of its spiciness. And really, what isn’t a bit spicy? 😉 Many also top their bowls with fresh basil, mint, cilantro, roasted peanuts, and/or pickled vegetables such as carrots or cucumbers.

What is the difference between pho and banh mi?

So, what is the big difference between phở (pronounced like “ho-wa”) and banh mi? Well, one is a noodle soup and the other is a Vietnamese bread sandwich!

A lot of people get mixed up about which one is which. Some say that phô is just another way to spell bán mì or even hoa meaning noodles in Vietnamese. This isn’t totally wrong but it left out the very important part: the broth!

The broth is what makes a great phở so don’t forget to add that! Also, some people confuse phong with gưạng, both of which mean salt in Vietnamese, but none of them use mayonnaise as an ingredient.

What are the different dishes on the pho menu?

The next thing to consider is what kind of pho you want! There are three main types of pho that most restaurants have. These include: Vietnamese style, American style, and California style.

The Vietnamese style has thicker noodles and more herbs in it than the other two. This makes it much healthier because there’s less rice and fat in each serving.

However, it can be a little bit heavy depending on how many vegetables and extras you put into yours. If you like extra veggies then this one is for you!

The american styled pho uses thinner noodles and less meat as opposed to the heavier ones used in the native cuisine.

This one is slightly lighter and therefore better for people who may need to watch their weight or enjoy eating light foods.

Lastly, the Californian style has no chicken stock at all! Only water and fresh veggie toppings such as carrots and celery.

How do I pick a pho restaurant?

Finding a good pho place is like finding a great French fry or chicken wing spot- you’ve got to be hungry!

Just because there are lots of people talking about a pho chain doesn’t mean that they’re always giving quality recommendations. In fact, most reviews are pretty similar with just a few minor differences. And some reviewers may not know how to properly order pho nor what toppings make sense.

So how does one choose the best pho?

There are several key factors when ordering pho at restaurants. The first thing to look for is whether or not they use fresh beef broth in their soup. Some brands only mix the stock after it sits overnight which makes them taste better but can sometimes contain raw meat depending on how long it sat before being mixed into the soup. Make sure your pho has fresh, clean tasting broth to add flavor and texture to the soup.

Next, check out the noodles used in the pho noodle bowl. There are two main types: rice or wheat noodles. Both work well in different ways so whichever type sounds more interesting to you is up to personal preference.

Thirdly, ask if the restaurant uses any kind of special sauce(s) or ingredients (like chili oil or cilantro) as extras. Decide for yourself whether these additions give the soup enough flavor or if they are unnecessary decorations.

What are some tips for eating pho?

One of my favorite things to do while in Vietnam is eat pho! I have already mentioned how delicious this soup can be, but there are some extra steps you can take to make it even better.

The first thing that most people don’t realize when they order pho is what kind of meat they want in their broth. There are three main types of broths- beef, chicken, and fish/shellfish. Each type has a specific flavor that makes the broth more interesting.

I recommend getting one each if you love spicy or salty flavors. The only difference between all three is whether the bones remain in the broth or not. Having bone in the broth helps keep you fuller longer because your stomach needs some time to process the food before moving onto the next meal.

Another ingredient that many people leave out is rice noodles. These thin and almost chewy ribbons are an integral part of the soup and taste good with both sweet and savory ingredients.

Is pho vegetarian?

While some may consider pho to be meat-based soup, that is not quite true! Many say it looks like chicken noodle soup, but that is only because of the creamy, rice base.

Pho does contain dried beef or buffalo meat in some form, but this is typically either grilled and left as crumbly bits or mixed into the broth at the very end. It will never otherwise make an appearance as part of the soup’s taste profile!

The noodles themselves are sometimes described as tasting similar to pasta, which might sound weird given the other ingredients. But the consistency can be tricky to match unless you have tasted bún (Chinese egg noodles) before!

So what about the rich, salty toppings? Those are mostly fresh herbs and spices, such as basil, mint, cilantro, ginger, garlic, chili pepper, and so on. Some people even add wasabi, which is a type of tartar made from fermented Japanese horseradish.

What is the best pho in Hollywood?

As much as people enjoy eating pho, there are always different opinions of what kind is the “best”. Some say that it can never be truly good unless it has meat, while others insist that they will not taste anything but the broth.

Some like to add extra toppings such as basil or mint, rice, noodles and/or vegetables which is completely fine, but some take things a little too far.

One person I know loves chili peppers so much that he adds them to almost every item! Luckily for him, his love for spicy foods was enough to make up for how many bites get left at his restaurant.

Another person I knew would only eat his soup if there were no carrots in it! He refused to try any flavor except white chicken stock- and even then, it took a lot of effort to get a spoonful down his throat.

What is the best place to eat pho in Los Angeles?

While there are several great pho restaurants in LA, one of our favorite places to order this Vietnamese soup is at Thai-LA (Thai Lane) located in Westwood. They have an extensive menu that includes all sorts of vegetarian and meat options for their pho!

Not only do they offer veggie broth as well as chicken or beef broths, but you can also choose your toppings like fresh basil, mint, cilantro, rice noodles, bean sprouts, and even raw vegetables such as cucumbers and carrots!

They also have things like mango salad which is sweet and refreshing and was another big hit when we ordered it.

Do you need to order dishes separately or can you get them all together?

As a pho restaurant, they offer many different meat options and broth types. The most popular are beef noodle soup and chicken-rice soup. They may also have rice noodles in their version of pho!

At Pho Hoa, there is an option for veggie-broth pho. This is typically made with mushrooms and spinach as the base and comes with fresh basil leaves.

You do not have to ask for either broths nor does it matter which ones you choose - they are both delicious and authentic!

There is one more thing that sets this place apart from other pho restaurants - the menu.

Pho hoa has a variety of condiments such as sriracha sauce, pickled veggies, fresh herbs, hot peppers, and even white vinegar to add some tang to your food.
