Los Angeles X Meaning
Finding the meaning of LAX can be tricky, there are so many different interpretations! Luckily, you don’t have to look very hard to find the truth about this famous airport. Many theories have been floating around for years explaining what exactly “LAX” means to those who use it every day. Some say it refers to the city of Los Angeles, while others believe that it stands for Last Airstrip Takeover.
There is no clear definition, but we wanted to bring together all of the most plausible ones in one place to make it easy to compare and identify which theory is correct. It is important to note that not everyone agrees on the exact same definitions, nor is there necessarily an official word from the company that owns the name. That being said, we feel pretty confident with our own take on the matter!
The first part of this article will go over some key points about the term before moving onto the explanations. If you’re already familiar with the term then you can jump directly into the body of the article.
The Los Angeles Dodgers
As I mentioned earlier, the Los Angeles Dodgers are in their third consecutive season of championship contention. They actually won the World Series last year! What is it about this team that makes them so successful?
They play an exciting style of baseball that includes lots of speed, power, and agility. This can be seen through their lineup, which features players such as Cody Bellinger (first base), Mookie Betts (outfield)*, Joc Pederson (center field), Max Muncy (left field), and Corey Seager (short stop).
*Betts was born in Mesa, Arizona but grew up outside of Boston, Massachusetts
These five players all have very strong individual skills that they bring to the table. Each one has played professional baseball for at least six years, making them experienced professionals.
The strength of this organization comes from the leadership of manager Dave Roberts and general manager Branch Riccienelli. These two men work together not only to put the best possible team on the field, but also to motivate the rest of the staff to help the team win.
Roberts and Riccardinli both speak highly of each other, showing how much trust there is between the two. Both men share similar experiences in sports, having worked with others before.
This gives the group a lot of knowledge and understanding of what works and doesn’t in sports. It also helps when someone makes a mistake because there is a backup plan.
The Los Angeles Clippers
As mentioned earlier, the most popular theory about the name change for this team is that they wanted to be more relatable to their fans by being “cliche” or plain-spoken. This theory was debunked however when some people pointed out how racist the name ‘Clipper’ is.
The word clipper comes from the British term meaning'seafarer'. In Britain in the early 19th century, there were large groups of sailors coming into England due to the discovery of gold in Australia. Because these men lived mostly off food supplies and money shipped back home, it is understandable why lower class Londoners would refer to them as 'clippered', which later evolved into the less polite moniker of 'clip' or even just 'Clip.'
This eventually became the preferred way to say the word'seaman' or'seacraftsman,' making it seem like an appropriate nickname for professional athletes who make good money traveling across country to play a game. Unfortunately, not everyone agrees with this reasoning and perception.
The Los Angeles Angels
As we know, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim left for greener pastures in 2002. Since then, they have been trying to find their place as one of the top teams in Major League Baseball. They still struggle with consistency from game-to-game and player-to-player.
The team has never finished higher than third overall in the AL West. In fact, only two times have they even made it into the playoffs!
They are always close though, usually within one or two games per season of being crowned division champions.
Something that many people don’t realize is that the Angels actually won back-to-back Western Division titles in 2001 and 2002.
Why isn’t this mentioned more? I think because most baseball fans can’t name all five current members of the starting rotation.
But what about those players you ask?
Well, Vladimir Guerrero was part of the first championship run in 2001 along with Troy Glaus, Tim Salmon, Brendan Donnelly, and Scott Servais.
And Garrett Richards, Jared Weaver, C.J. Wilson, Matt Shoemaker, Tyler Skaggs, Liam Hendriks, Cam Bedrosian, and Hector Santiago were also starters during that time period.
The Los Angeles Kings
Over the past few years, there has been much talk about how the Los Angeles Kings need to find that special feeling team spirit. They seem to have more of a feel-good vibe than most teams in the league, but it is always just for a short period of time.
When things go bad, there are no signs of anyone giving up or quitting. That’s what makes them so successful at ending games with a lead. But when pressure builds and the game gets tight, you see a lot of players who don’t like each other’s guts.
There will be times this season where something crazy happens and everyone goes home happy, but outside the locker room none of those people know what happened. It’ll happen again next week until everything breaks down and someone says something stupid.

As much as people love to talk about how great the Los Angeles Chargers are, there is always at least one person talking about how they could not stand watching them play for an entire game.
That does not seem like it would matter in cities with two professional football teams, but when your team is consistently winning games while everyone else’s is not it can become very frustrating.
For example, if you were never able to watch the Lakers win a championship because the Knicks were also in the playoffs, then why should you care about the Eagles or Patriots championships this year?
The answer comes down to what the city of Los Angeles has been waiting for almost their whole existence- a National Football Champion!
So even though most Angelenos will still be rooting for the LA Chargers to do something amazing next season (and we all know that will happen), they now have someone to root for during times when the Los Angeles Rams are playing.
The Los Angeles Galaxy
Following their championship season in 2014, when they won the MLS Cup for the second time in three years, Major League Soccer announced that it would be expanding into Southern California by adding a team to its league of clubs.
On December 6th 2015, just under two months after announcing the expansion franchise, the LA Galaxy were officially crowned as champions of all things soccer with a 2-1 victory over New York City FC at Banc of California Stadium in what was considered one of the biggest games of the year.
After an early goal from NYCFC striker Maximiliano Urruti set the tone for this match, it seemed like the home side would cruise to another successful season. But you could not take your eyes off of Londen Gustavo Fernandes de Almeida Silva, better known simply as Gustavo or Guga, who continued his recent hot streak forward through the midfield.
He constantly pressured the ball and found spaces in between the opposition defenders, before shooting towards the back of the net to put the hosts up 1-0.
And he did it again minutes later, taking advantage of some sloppy defending to slot home his third goal of the night. It took him only eight matches to get his first goal, but eight more until he scored his third showed how quickly he has adapted to the professional level.
But while his quick scoring may have impressed many, there is something much deeper going on here than just pure talent.

They are currently members of the Pacific Division of the Western Conference in the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Lakers have won 10 NBA championships, the most of any team. The franchise was founded in Minneapolis in 1920 and originally called the Minneapolis Lakers. The team moved to Ohio and was renamed the Dayton Wings. In 1946 the team moved to Hollywood, where it took the name of the local Hollywood Basketball Club. In 1949 the team moved to its current home, the STAPLES Center. The Lakers have played their home games at the STAPLES Center since opening in 1999.
Since moving to L A in the 1950s, the Lakers have been one of the league’s dominant teams. During this time they have amassed ten championship rings, more than any other team. Many consider them to be one of the greatest sports franchises ever.
They are also known for having some of the biggest stars the game has ever seen. Names like Jerry Buss, who served as president from 2010-2019, and Shaquille O’Neal, both of whom still play for the team today, are well recognized. Others such as Kobe Bryant and LeBron James would later join them!
Bryant retired after winning his sixth ring in 2018 while James left for greener pastures in South Beach earlier this year. Both men will always hold a special place in L A history, but that is nothing compared to what former All Star forward Metta World Peace can add to the conversation.
World Peace spent six seasons with the Lakers before being let go due to behavioral issues. He now plays professionally in China where he has become quite popular. His achievements speak for themselves though; he made an impact during his tenure in LA.

When you’ve got a championship caliber team that has been assembled for years, there is usually a clear vision of what they want to be. There may even be some players who feel like this season is their year to win a title and they work with each other to make that happen.
For the past few seasons though, the LAX or “Los Amantes” as many call them, group of fans has had no definitive idea of what the team wants to be. Sure, there have been rumors here and there about potential moves but nothing solid. It seems like every time the team gets close to achieving their goal, something happens to derail the process.
This offseason was no different. Just before the start of training camp, reports came out saying that LeBron James would prefer to play for the Golden State Warriors than join the Lakers. Many people thought that was the end of the matter because if he wanted to go west then clearly he didn’t want to come to L.A.. But soon after those initial stories broke, someone leaked an internal email from Jimmy Buss, one of the owners of the Lakers, stating his intention to keep going after LeBron anyways.
He mentioned all sorts of reasons why including how much money he can get for the team and how important it will be to the league’s success.
