Marc Webb to Direct Skydance's Mystery-Filled Bermuda Project

Skydance, the production company responsible for commercial hits like Top Gun: Maverick and Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, has secured a director for its upcoming action-adventure film titled Bermuda, which sits centred around the enigmatic Bermuda Triangle. Marc Webb, known for directing (500) Days of Summer and Disney’s live-action adaptation of Snow White, is officially in line to helm the project, following a recent deal closure.

It's noteworthy that Bermuda has been in development for some time, but present details of this specific version portray a project that is very much still in its infancy. A writer for the project hasn't been attached yet due to the ongoing WGA strike. Insiders have indicated that this status quo will persist until the strike concludes, post which Marc Webb is expected to be consulted on the script but isn’t anticipated to co-write.

While many elements of the project continue to remain shrouded in mystery, one confirmed fact is that Bermuda will be set in the enigmatic locale universally infamous for mysterious disappearances of planes and ships over the years.

The production responsibilities for Bermuda at Skydance will be undertaken by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger. Additionally, Aimee Rivera has been designated to provide oversight for the project at Skydance.

Cast amid an impressive live-action film slate that includes projects like Heart of Stone, Spy Kids: Armageddon, and The Old Guard 2 for Netflix; The Family Plan, The Gorge, and Mayday for Apple TV+; along with Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part Two, Bermuda certainly stands in a promising lineup.

Moving on to the lighter side of things, one can't help but find the parallels between the famed Bermuda Triangle, known for mysterious disappearances, and the illustrious Hollywood, recognised for mysterious appearances of yet another Top Gun or Mission: Impossible sequel. The world may forever ponder how those happen!

Director Marc Webb, with a credit list as diverse as comedy and fantasy, embarking on a quest into the depths of the Bermuda Triangle is nothing short of interesting. Given his directorial range, one might expect a summer fling on an island... or perhaps a dwarfish gala at the queen's castle while the planes and ships continue their disappearing act.

With no Avengers or Jedi in sight to save the day (or the ships), Bermuda promises a thrilling ride into the unknown. Just keep one thing in mind though: in the Bermuda Triangle even the screenwriting process is mysterious: no writers attached until the strike ends. Could it be, perhaps, the triangle's work too?

And in this carousel of Hollywood, where reboots and sequels often crowd out the originality, Skydance seems to have found quite a "triangular" piece of the pie. To quote an ancient truth, “In Hollywood, nobody knows anything"; so for all we know, Bermuda might turn up as the next big franchise. Just, nobody tell the Avengers - I hear they're sort of out of a job lately.
