Monteverde-Angel Reunion: "Cabrini" Primed For 2024 Release
Alejandro Monteverde, the director behind the remarkably successful film, "Sound of Freedom," is set to join forces once again with Angel Studios, for the upcoming release "Cabrini." Primed for a March 8, 2024 release, Monteverde and Angel Studios aim to recreate their summer triumph, which saw "Sound of Freedom" gather an impressive $180M domestically, with an international release still in progress.
The forthcoming movie, "Cabrini", tells the inspirational story of Francesca Cabrini, an impoverished yet daring Italian immigrant who went on to become one of the most prominent entrepreneurs of the 19th century. A tale of unprecedented bravery and skill, this film explores Cabrini's relentless struggle to overcome sexism, violent anti-Italian bigotry, and a deeply entrenched establishment that sought to make her journey an impossible one.
Headlining the project on screen is Cristiana Dell’Anna, of "Gomorrah" and "Trust" fame, in the title role, alongside noted luminaries of the screen, including John Lithgow (known for "Footloose"), David Morse (from "The Green Mile," and "St. Elsewhere"), Giancarlo Giannini ("Quantum of Solace," and "Casino Royale") and Federico Castelluccio, best known for his role in "The Sopranos".
In a statement, Liz Ellis, Chief Operating Officer at Angel Studios conveyed her enthusiasm about recounting the largely forgotten tale of Cabrini and her impact on the world. "We’re thrilled to be able to share her unbelievable story in theaters this Spring. This will be our second collaboration with Sound of Freedom director Alejandro Monteverde: and the Angel Guild gave this film even higher ratings than Sound of Freedom."
The movie is set to open on a date already reserved by Angel Studios, and will be competing on the big screen with "A Quiet Place: Day One" from Paramount, and Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s "Kung-Fu Panda 4".
Now, with the facts out of the way, let's sputter into some unabashed, yet genteel, commentary.
Alejandro Monteverde, we meet again. His Midas touch in "Sound of Freedom", which has undoubtedly raked in the ducats, has certainly set sky-high expectations for "Cabrini." But this isn't Monteverde's first rodeo, so brace yourself for a tantalizing blend of craft and innovation.
"Cabrini" is a pastiche of history, audacity, and spirit, and who better to lead than Cristiana Dell’Anna? She has an organic ability to embody the emotional range that her role demands and - mark my words - will make Francesca Cabrini’s story shake the stratosphere.
Yet, amidst the elation, the note of caution strikes. March 8, 2024, seems like a fiesta of high-octane film releases with "A Quiet Place: Day One" and "Kung-Fu Panda 4" joining the fray. There's no magic 8-ball to predict the outcome but a friendly advice, Monteverde and team - pack your best punch, the clash will not be a peaceful one.
To end on a chirpier note, here's hoping that "Cabrini," much like its namesake, disrupts the status quo in the cinematic world. For now, we'll just have to wait with bated breath, grab the nearest popcorn tub, and ready ourselves for the movie marathon slated for March 8, 2024. In the restive realm of Hollywood, it's never a dull day, is it?
