Original Hollywood

Addison Smith

The term “Hollywood” refers to both the area of Los Angeles as well as the culture that has grown around it.

The word “hollywood” is sometimes used in a negative way. When people use this adjective, they are referring to what many have dubbed “the movie-making machine.”

This perception arises from two main causes. First, there is a tendency to exaggerate just how much money and influence film studios and filmmakers possess.

Second, some feel that the focus is more on making big blockbuster movies than producing quality content.

But these criticisms don’t hold up very long once you take a closer look at the history of filmmaking in America!

In fact, if we were to go back in time and watch any number of films, most of them would not look very different today than when they first released.

And while large budgets and flashy special effects may now be the norm, clever storytelling and characters that grow on you still exist.

Many classic films remain popular to this day, proving that there is no need for expensive production values to create meaningful stories with lasting value.

So before passing judgment on the current state of cinema, do your research and make an informed choice about whether this genre or that is the better one.

It’s all good wholesome entertainment after all!

The studio system

The term ‘studio system’ is typically used to describe how major studios operate, but it can also be applied to any organization that produces and disseminates material or products. In other words, even small businesses have their own internal structure resembling what we refer to as the studio system.

The word ‘system’ comes from the Greek word dia which means through or by way of. Systems are usually built with three parts: framework, components, and process.

In the case of large corporations, the component part often looks like the studio system because it applies here. This theory was first proposed in 1917 when production specialist Frank E. Davies wrote an article titled 'The Origin and Function of the Studio System'. He described this model as having five stages: script, treatment, project, execution, and review.

Since then, there has been some tweaking and changing, but the basic concept remains the same. It takes more than just people working together to produce a quality film or TV show, so why not use this structure to help you achieve your goal?

By applying the studio system to yourself, you will create a roadmap for planning, producing, and promoting your work. You will know where to look for guidance, feedback, and motivation.

This includes looking into the psychology of marketing, media literacy, business strategies, etc.

The great studios

There are only five major movie studio complexes left in America, and not one of them is owned by Netflix or any other streaming service.

That’s right - Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures, Universal Studios (formerly known as Universal-International), Fox Film Corporation and Columbia Pictures all have their own buildings that house production facilities and offices.

These big corporations aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, but there are some lesser known studios out there who don’t quite make it into that category.

There’s always someone who says they’re dying out, even if you look closely and know what to watch for. For example, Sony’s been talking about how film has “lapsed” since video killed cinema, so why invest money in filmmaking?

But I wouldn’t say that just yet. A few years down the road, when technology has advanced enough that we can produce our films virtually at a cost comparable to shooting live action, then yes, I will agree with them.

However, until then, there’s still plenty of money to be made in filming whole movies using virtual tools.

Famous actors of the golden age

The term ‘icon’ was not in use back then, but these famous actors are just as iconic today. They have shaped our culture through their work and legacies that they left behind. Many still actively promote products and services, building an income stream to fund future projects.

Many became well known for a single role, which helped them stay relevant as things change. For example, after leaving Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo has starred in several successful TV shows and films since.

There are many reasons why people admire these artists, but it usually boils down to two things: they believe in what they put out into the world, and they are very passionate about what they do.

With all due respect to the newer generation of talent, I would say that there is no one quite like those who came before us.

Famous actresses of the golden age

Some famous actresses from what we can call the original Hollywood era are still very popular to this day. These women have huge fanbases that watch their work closely, which is why they remain in the spotlight. They are also constantly being mentioned and discussed about as people compare themselves to them or look up pictures of them.

Many of these actresses were known for portraying strong characters who did not shy away from hard conversations. This made them well-respected leaders in the workplace. Their personal lives remained private until they decided to share them with the world, making them likeable individuals.

These powerful female stars are always in high demand when it comes to filming projects, so they do not struggle to make ends meet while supporting themselves and their families.

What makes an actress ‘famous’?

If you ask most people what defines someone as famous, they will probably refer to either media coverage or large numbers of followers on social media. However, there is another way to measure success as an artist and that is how many people care about your career and/or yourself.

In fact, some experts say that having a small but loyal audience is actually better than a lot of fans, because at least they show interest in you. More importantly, these few fans may spend money buying merchandise or going to see you perform, which helps you earn more income.

Famous directors of the golden age

Legendary filmmakers are still making incredible stories that leave an impression on people to this day. They’re familiar faces who have big names, but aside from their status as famous filmmakers, very little is known about them otherwise.

Many of these men were never properly credited for their work due to copyright issues or because they refused credit for themselves. Some even used pseudonyms in order to avoid being labeled as “the new guy.”

While some may consider it petty, I think it speaks more to how insecure they must have been at the time.

Famous writers of the golden age

The classic story structure is built around a protagonist, someone who experiences an event that changes their life for the better or worse. This could be due to circumstance (finding out about your sibling’s secret affair) or action (betraying your partner).

The plot then unfolds from there as the character works towards achieving their goal while being challenged by unexpected obstacles. In stories where no one is ever really in control, this can apply to fate, nature or even God, but here we talk about external forces related to characters.

Writer Robert A Heinlein used his self-published science fiction books like Time Enough For Killing and Double Star to explore how individuals influence each other. His main characters are not typically good people, making it hard to identify with them at times. That said, you get to learn about their weaknesses and what makes them unhappy so you can avoid these things in your own life.

Top movie theaters

The term “movie theater” may sound outdated, but that is definitely not the case anymore. With technology moving at lightning speed, big studios have started offering their movies through what they call an OTT (over-the-top) service. These are typically paid services that you have to subscribe to in order to access them.

Most of these services offer large screen quality video and excellent sound quality. Some even allow for private viewing or chat with other users!

These apps usually start at around $10 per month depending on how many features you want to add onto your account. For example, some will give you free tickets to a movie if you use their app before a certain date!

Many people now prefer this style of entertainment due to it being more accessible than going to the movie theatre.

Popular movie genres

original hollywood

A lot of people associate genre films with big explosions, flashy costumes and large casts. But not all movies in those categories are considered “genre” films! Some examples include:

A drama about a struggling business person who must deal with his or her responsibilities while trying to achieve their dreams

About how two individuals struggle with differences in style and taste when it comes to decorating their home

The story of an individual who struggles with personal issues and relationships

In fact, there are several major movie genre types that don’t feature any of these characteristics at all!

Topic and bullet point research (TBR) is one of my favorite writing strategies as I like to pull together different points and ideas into one article. So, let’s use this technique here by breaking down the topic and bullet point above into separate paragraphs and notes.

General note: just because something is popular doesn’t make it good. It can be very empty and boring. Genre fiction is often thought of as simple stories with straightforward narratives, but some writers create complex storylines that may surprise readers.

While some parts of romances contain strong romantic themes, others are purely fantastical.
