Peter Oillataguerre Steps Up as Amazon MGM's New Head of Feature Film Production
Peter Oillataguerre, a seasoned film production executive, has been appointed as the new Head of Feature Film Production at Amazon MGM Studios, as announced by studio head Jennifer Salke via email to staff on Friday. With over 20 years of experience under his belt, Oillataguerre was previously with Spyglass Media Group where he held the position of President of Production for three and a half years. His new tenure at Amazon MGM Studios commences on Monday, September 18.
At Amazon MGM Studios, Oillataguerre will oversee the entire feature film production cycle for the film group. He will report to Dan Scharf, Head of Global Business Operations, and partner closely with Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical, and others on the film teams.
The new Head of Feature Film Production, Oillataguerre, boasts a deep-rooted competence in the industry following his stints at Universal and the very MGM Studios he's to now heading. He worked on high stake projects such as the Creed franchise and the globally renowned James Bond series.
Amazon, last seen acquiring the MGM movie studio for $8.5B in the last spring, has been on a trajectory toward a strengthened commitment to the traditional theatrical model. This merge has seen Amazon Studios and MGM brought together under one label for theatrical distribution.
Salke’s note welcoming Oillataguerre underscored his accumulated industry experience, citing his impressive tour of duty at Spyglass Media, where he oversaw the production of numerous blockbusters, including "Scream," "Hellraiser," "The Upside," and "Incoming." Past projects also include the widely recognized fashion competition series "Project Runway." He's also had experiences with both Universal Studios and MGM Studios where he's worked on tentpole films like the Bond franchise, "Creed," "RoboCop," "The Magnificent Seven" and "Along Came Polly" among others.

Now, to the fun part. Oillataguerre's appointment brings a wave of excitement, likely to shake things up a bit at the famed Silver Screen office on Monday. Picture this - it's like reuniting with an old friend, but instead, this time around, your friend is now the new soccer team captain.
Amazon must be hosting a gala of sort in their heads - they've got their old pal Peter on board, who's done everything from training with Bond in Skyfall to jamming with the funky Creed. Surely, they're counting on him to bottle that magical industry potion he's been brewing over the last 20 years and sprinkle it all over Amazon MGM Studios. The key recipe of success for Amazon here is Oillataguerre’s grounded expertise in the film wheelhouse.
Oillataguerre's appointment might also signal Amazon's continued tryst with the glitz, glamour, popcorn crunching, and Dolby sound embracing world of theatrical releases. I'm certainly not complaining here. There's something about the big screens that the comfy couches at home fail to give credit to.
With Oillataguerre’s back catalog boasting, a veritable who’s who of Hollywood heavyweights, it's going to be thrilling to watch how he shapes Amazon MGM Studios'. One thing's for sure, he's got big shoes to fill and maybe even bigger ones to create. So, here's wishing him all the luck with his first Monday morning coffee in his new office. Break a leg, Peter! There's no business like show business, after all.
