Peter Oillataguerre Swings in as Amazon MGM's New Head of Film Production
Peter Oillataguerre has taken his talents to Amazon MGM Studios, officially stepping into the newly created role of Head of Feature Film Production. The announcement came via an email sent to staff by studio head Jennifer Salke this Friday.
Oillataguerre will pivot from his role at Spyglass Media Group where he served with distinction as President of Production for three and a half years. His Monday, September 18th start date sets him on an adventure into the future of Amazon MGM's film production.
Reporting to Dan Scharf, Head of Global Business Operations, and working closely with the Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical, Courtenay Valenti, Oillataguerre will oversee all aspects of the feature production cycle for Amazon MGM film group.
With a résumé boasting two decades in the industry, Oillataguerre's credentials and seasoned perspective serve as significant boosts to the team. His tenure at both Universal and MGM Studios places him in good stead for this new role, having previously worked on several high-profile projects including the James Bond series and the Creed franchise.
Amazon made headlines in March when it acquired MGM studio for a staggering $8.5B. This marked a return to embracing theatrical productions and merging Amazon Studios and MGM under one umbrella for theatrical distribution.
Jennifer Salke's note to the company welcomed Oillataguerre and reemphasized the team's commitment to delivering exceptional content for their customers across Prime Video, Freevee & MGM+, as well as their theatrical releases and titles on outside platforms.
Few Hollywood insiders can claim to know the industry as Peter Oillataguerre does. From Spyglass to MGM and back again, it's as if he's been method acting for this role his entire career. And now, curtain's up on his appointment as Head of Feature Film Production at Amazon MGM Studios.
This is an intriguing move, not just for Oillataguerre, but for Amazon as well. It's almost reminiscent of when folks asked, "Is Amazon going to sell more than books?" Fast forward, and now we've got Amazon charting a new course in the world of film production - A fascinating prospect indeed, don't you think?
Oillataguerre's work with both household franchise names and lesser-known titles shows a breadth of understanding that will likely serve him well in his new role. As the old saying goes, "You can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs." Or in this case, producing a few blockbusters.
The appointment indicates that Amazon MGM is serious about its identity as a movie studio. They've hired a seasoned professional who makes films, not just watches them (although I'm sure he does a fair bit of that too). Clearly, they're swinging for the fences, and Peter Oillataguerre might just be the power hitter they need in their lineup.
So as we look towards the future of Amazon MGM, let's remember to keep our eyes on the screen and our popcorn at the ready. Because if Oillataguerre's past work is any indication, we're in for quite the show. Welcome to the center stage, Peter. Break a leg, but not a film reel.
