Peter Oillataguerre Tapped as Amazon MGM's Film Production Boss
Peter Oillataguerre has been assigned to the newly established position of Head of Feature Film Production at Amazon MGM Studios. The news was relayed on Friday via email by studio head Jennifer Salke to her staff members. Oillataguerre previously worked at Spyglass Media Group for over three years, holding the title of President of Production. Beginning Monday, September 18, in his new capacity, he will be in charge of every facet of the feature film production cycle for Amazon MGM Studios film group. Him reporting to Dan Scharf, Head of Global Business Operations and offering a collaborative hand to Courtenay Valenti, Head of Film, Streaming and Theatrical, and the film teams was brought to light in the same briefing.
Oillataguerre brings a solid foundation of two decades of industry experience with him. His vast background includes tenure at Universal and even MGM Studios, where he made significant contributions to popular franchises like Creed and James Bond series. Completing the acquisition of MGM movie studio for $8.5B last March, Amazon is aligning its focus back to embracing theatrics. The move merged Amazon Studios with MGM as one entity with respect to theatrical distribution.
The note from Salke appreciating the team's work and welcoming Oillataguerre to the Amazon MGM family was read aloud to the company. Salke acknowledged the employees for their passion, effort and the biggest asset of the company, adding that Peter is joining the company as due to his vast work expertise in the area of production. Peter's former associations include Spyglass media where he produced blockbusters like Scream, Hellraiser, The Upside, and Incoming; and tent-pole titles in Universal Studios and MGM Studios including Skyfall, No Time To Die, Creed franchise, RoboCop, The Magnificent Seven and Along Came Polly among others.
Now, let’s put on our gossip goggles and switch to the fun part of this Hollywood story.
Movies, the fascinating world of make-believe! Just when you think it's all down to the talented actors who bewitch us on our screens, behind the scene, the cogs are massively turning. And one such cog who is about to grease the machine of Amazon MGM Studios is our very own Peter Oillataguerre.
And I must admit, the man doesn’t exactly come to the party empty-handed. He packs a resume which reads like a list of your favorite Friday night indulgences. Should we be bracing ourselves for a new wave of show-stopping content? Only time will tell.
Oillataguerre's tenure at MGM Studios was enough to make James Bond consider early retirement. His sense of adventure then took him to Spyglass Media. But as they say, 'Home is where the movie is', so he's back at the same studio, but, with a different moniker. And what a homecoming! In the quintessential Hollywood style, new title, new responsibilities, and star-studded welcome.
What’s interesting is that this appointment comes at a time when Amazon is working on a Hollywood “pivot”, shifting its attention back to the silver screen. There’s a certain charm about being seated in velvet seats with a bucket of extra-butter popcorn on your lap, isn’t there? This move has a flavor of that nostalgic charm.
Oillataguerre is essentially the new sheriff in town, single-handedly managing the life-cycle of MGM's feature film production. That’s akin to being the mayor of Hollywood and comes with a cowboy hat full of responsibilities.
In conclusion, as our very own 'movie mayor' saddles up for his new ride, we can only be hopeful on the back of his proven track record. Call it a hunch, but something tells me Amazon MGM Studios is on the veranda of a movie-making renaissance, all set to kick their production up a notch. I'm not telling you to keep your popcorn tub ready, but that's exactly what I'm telling you to do.
