Addison Smith

What are the qualifications for acting as a career? This article will discuss the qualifications for acting as a career.

Acting is often described as a profession of the people, making it something anyone can do, no matter their age or gender. However, what other responsibilities do acting actors have?

Many actors undertake an acting course to develop their skills as an actor. Most acting courses last a few weeks and are paid for by the course provider.

Acting courses can be offered from a range of schools and training organisations.

If a person is intending to embark upon an acting career, they will likely have a wide range of experience to offer.

Those who have little or no experience as an actor may find it difficult to begin a career, especially if they do not possess the right qualifications.

Education and qualification

In the UK, acting qualifications are not universally required for those embarking on a career as an actor.

Students who wish to study acting at university or college often attend classes at London's Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (AMDA).

Another option is to study for an acting certificate (DCPA), which is offered in the UK by the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama.

When people become members of an acting agency or casting agency, the agencies may ask for an audition and maybe an audition workshop as part of the initial intake process.

Auditions may be filmed for auditions or filmed video to document the initial session.

In the UK, acting qualifications are not required to obtain a professional acting license, which is required for many roles.

As acting is a craft that requires years of practice, this permits will not be issued unless a person has trained for a minimum of three years and has passed the required examinations.

This permit can only be obtained after the person has passed the licensing exams.

Experience

Those wishing to embark upon an acting career are encouraged to put themselves forward for roles and auditions.

At some points, casting directors and producers will arrange for experienced actors to play parts in productions where they do not have the qualifications or experience required for the role.

In order to work as an actor in the UK, applicants must also pay their taxes. The tax that is due on earnings is 8% for employees and 4% for self-employed individuals.

For example, if a person earns £50,000, this will be taxed at £8,000. This tax is not payable for freelancers or those who are self-employed.

The Right Size Agency also runs a UK-based casting agency and focuses on helping people of different ages and sizes to find work in the acting industry.

Understandably, it can be very difficult to gauge the fitness requirements of an actor to play a particular role.

TSA suggests that you look at all the various types of roles, such as the physical, emotional and comedic elements of the role.

You should take this into consideration, along with the particular physicality required.

Are you fit enough to play a superhero? It's a common question in the acting world, but the answer is likely to be yes - The Royal Academy of Dramatic Art teaches actors how to transform their body into superhero shapes for filming and theater productions.

If you are a woman, you should be between 5'4" and 5'6". If you are 5'10" or under and are not morbidly obese, you should be able to do a number of upper body and core exercises at least twice a week.
