SAG-AFTRA and Writers Guild Strike Nation-Wide, Demand Equitable Contracts
In an extensive show of solidarity and collective strength, members of SAG-AFTRA have been actively picketing not just in spotlight media centers like Los Angeles and New York but all across the country. The guild's recent video bulletin depicts a powerful image of unity and resolve, showing select members in 24 of the guild’s 25 locales picketing for an equitable contract. The only noticeable absence? Houston-Austin.
Joining the nation-wide act of protestation, loyal members have shown up in strength in cities across the United States, including Atlanta, Chicago, New Mexico, New Orleans, Philadelphia, Hawaii, Michigan, Nevada, New England, Portland, San Diego, San Francisco-Northern California, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Seattle, Miami, Ohio-Pittsburgh, Arizona-Utah, Nashville, Washington/Mid-Atlantic, Colorado, the Missouri Valley, and Dallas-Fort Worth.
Today's center of focus shifts towards Amazon Studios in Culver City and Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank where the pickets are scheduled for this morning. The picketers present here are not only from SAG-AFTRA, but also from the Writers Guild of America, joined by notable attendants including Presidents of the Producer's Guild of America, Stephanie Allain, and Donald De Line at Amazon.
Plan to be present at Warner Bros? Well, you will have company, as Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, SAG-AFTRA’s national executive director and chief negotiator, and WGA board member Marjorie David will be partaking in the demonstration. The Producers Guild members will join the picketing there at 10 a.m. The Producers Guild, independent of the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, has expressed its support early along for their SAG-AFTRA counterparts in their complex decision to strike on the studios, companies, and streamers backed by AMPTP.

Well, if this isn't a display of Hollywood in its full Hardy Boys (Sure, Nancy Drews too- don't come at me with pitchforks) grit, I don't know what is. If you thought Hollywood was all about glitz, glam, and plentiful Starbucks runs, oh honey, you're in for a jolt. When it comes to their rights, trust Tinseltown to bare its claws, and how.
The spread of this strike across different states, cities, locales is nothing short of an award-worthy performance. It’s like they’ve decided to binge-watch 'Revolution,' and damned if they don’t go out with Emmy-grade performances.
But seriously, folks, the unity in display shouldn't be underestimated. It's easy for Hollywood to get lost in a jungle of selfies, insta captions, and pernicious vanity, but at the heart of it, there's a guild that knows how to bring the drama to where it matters - fighting for fair deals.
And to all my dear folks in Houston-Austin - did someone lose a memo? Check your spam folders already.
As for the power collab of SAG-AFTRA and the Writers Guild at Amazon and Warner Bros. Studios, I can't tell who's going to feel more outgunned: The Studios or Thanos in the Avengers? Jokes aside, it's clear this coalition is not here for empty tweets and feel-good PR. They want serous deals, they want them fair, and they want them yesterday.
So grab your popcorn, folks. This is Hollywood putting on one of its best shows, sans the red carpet. May be high drama, but damn, if it doesn't make for a riveting watch. Just remember, the star of this show isn't a person, but a cause: Fair deals for industry professionals. Kudos to all those picketing for their rights - Take a bow. Save me a front-row seat - this is a production I would not miss.
