Recent years have seen an explosion in online movie streaming services, with almost every major platform having their own service. This is great for viewers because there are so many options now! But what about those that don’t want to stream movies?

There are some people who just can’t or won’t watch videos of any length due to health issues or other commitments they may have. Or maybe they simply prefer watching TV instead.

That doesn’t mean these opportunities are gone though- in fact, they’re coming back in full force.

One such company is FilmOn, which was purchased by satellite television provider Vevo earlier this year. Now you can access all of their content via your smartphone or computer through their free app (and soon, their website as well).

FilmOn has been around since 2007, but it wasn’t until late last year when things really took off. That’s when they launched their Roku channel and YouTube channel, both of which quickly gained popularity.

Now, they’ve got their very own direct streaming service where users can choose from over 15,000 movies and 2,500 TV shows! It even works on most smart TVs, game consoles, and mobile devices.

Sadly, it isn’t totally free like most other streaming apps out there, but it does offer monthly subscriptions starting at only $8 per month.

Breaking Bad

Before there was Better Call Saul, before Walter White became Heisenberg, there was just Walt, a middle-class family man in Albuquerque who decided it was time to make a change. And he made that change by cooking crystal meth and earning his professional cook title with the help of his brother Jesse.

Walt’s transformation didn’t happen overnight but over several seasons which made him seem more like a master criminal than someone making a bad choice. Even when all signs pointed towards disaster, he always seemed to find a way to stay one step ahead.

His ability to manipulate people into doing what he wanted made him very powerful and even though he was never seen without his coat-and-suit top, white shirt and black pants, he did not suffer fools gladly.

He also didn’t forget about those who helped him along the way especially his former partner who eventually turned on him after she realized how power hungry he was. She got away with only having short bursts of his trust while he kept developing her son as his own so she was much better off than her ex-boyfriend!

There is a reason why many refer to him as “The Kingpin” or even “the Godfather of America’s Meth Epidemic.” Not only does he influence others around him, he also influences himself to keep up appearances and maintain an air of mystery and prestige.

Sex and the City

While some may consider it a cliché, there’s no denying that Sex and The City is one of the greatest sitcoms to ever hit TV screens. With its witty banter, relatable characters, and smart storylines, SATC has left an unforgettable mark on television.

Now in its ninth season, SATC continues to be a force to be reckoned with both critically and commercially. Between its three main stars (Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon as Miranda Hobbes, and Kim Basinger as Charlotte York) as well as several supporting characters, the show boasts over 150 individual episodes across all three seasons.

Not only does the series boast incredible success at the box office, but it also won many awards for its writing and acting. Since its debut back in 2004, Sex and The City has received twenty-one Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2010 and 2019. It even picked up two Golden Globes - Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy in 2007 and 2008.

With such strong praise surrounding the show, it’s no wonder why so many people enjoy it. But what makes the show special is not just how much it has done, but also WHY it has succeeded.

One Tree Hill

The show that made it big before streaming is now available to watch in its entirety via streaming services like Netflix. One Tree Hill premiered back in 2004, and was known for its dramatic storylines and rich characters.

The series focused on high school students who come together at their school’s talent competition. All of a sudden, they are thrust into the spotlight, where their talents can be seen by everyone including TV producers looking to hire them.

As the season progresses, these teens begin to question whether or not they will get involved in more than just their school’s competitive world. Many people may know this show from its many award shows, but there’t been too many scenes where groups of adults discuss how talented some person or thing is.

This isn’t the case here though, as the kids’ talent comes through very clearly. They don’t need much time to prove themselves either, as most episodes feature something new they must learn or use of their talent.

Full House

The first show in this category is one that has truly become a classic, and it’s not because of its catchy theme song or funny jokes. It’t even because of its impressive collection of famous guests. No, what makes This Is Us such an incredible sitcom is the way it shows us how people relate to each other, how they influence and affect one another, and how we all feel when we think we’re alone.

In fact, I would argue that one of the greatest strengths of This Is Us is that it never really isolates any character - there are always at least two characters working together for a common goal, which creates some very powerful scenes.

Furthermore, almost every scene in This Is Us seems like a mini-movie by itself, so you’ll be left with a strong sense of satisfaction after watching a few episodes. And while many TV series rely heavily on these special moments, This Is Us actually unfolds into full stories across several seasons, making it more substantial than most others.

It may sound weird to say that a television show about family is good for your soul, but I promise you won’t regret giving This Is Us a try. After spending time with the Chlorestes as they navigate their relationships, work together, and struggle to have children, I know for sure that this show will leave you feeling happier and healthier.

30 Rock

A lot of people consider The Office to be the true leader of workplace comedies, but I’d argue that it is actually the final season of 30 Rock that takes the crown. After nine seasons, NBC gave lead actress Jenna Fischer her own show in the form of The Waitress. Since then she has starred as the title character in her own series which premiered earlier this year.

The show isn’t necessarily about serving waffles, but it is still very close related. In fact, one of its most memorable scenes includes a pretty major reference to the movie Superbad where someone makes a joke about putting syrup in your mouth.

Since we are talking about how The Waitress is similar to 30 Rock, let us look at what some other famous TV shows are like. Many people have referred to Friends as a workplace comedy, and while it does feature workplaces, it is more focused on characters than settings.

True Blood

One of the most popular TV shows of all time is coming to an end next year. After eight seasons, HBO’s vampire drama will say goodbye in late June. Fans have spoken- they want more!

In fact, there are many ways you can watch every episode of the show for free. You don’t even need a Netflix account or anything else other than your device (mobile phone, computer, tablet).

Dawson’s Creek

While watching TV shows today is more about consuming content than it was even ten years ago, there are still some that strive to make an impact beyond their audience. A perfect example of this is The CW’s teen drama series, Drake & Josh. Created by Paul Scheuring and Bill Genshaft back in 2002, the show follows best friends Josh (Benjamin Henry Davis) and Drake (Miles Okafor) as they navigate through life together along with their close friend group.
