Shudder Snaps Up "You’ll Never Find Me" Ahead of Fantastic Fest Debut

A. Prentice

Streaming platform Shudder has acquired the exclusive rights for North America, United Kingdom, and Ireland for the Australian horror-thriller, "You’ll Never Find Me". This heavy hitter on the horror scene marks the directorial debut for the dynamic team Josiah Allen and Indianna Bell. The acquisition of this film is masterminded by the international sales agent Blue Finch Films. Following its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in June, "You’ll Never Find Me" is due to grace the screens at the coveted Fantastic Fest, ahead of its projected launch on Shudder in 2024.

This chilling psychological drama casts Brendan Rock as a reclusive man, who finds himself at the crossroads of fear and intrigue when a tormented young woman, played by Jordan Cowan, seeks shelter from a brutal storm in his humble caravan. As the storm reaches a fever pitch outside, the paranoia and anxiety inside intensifies, leaving the audience taut with anticipation. The bi-line of this nightmare-inducing narrative was penned by Indianna Bell, who served a dual role as scriptwriter and producer, partnering with Josiah Allen, Jordan Cowan, and Christine Williams on the production front.

Shudder's VP of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Emily Gotto, praised the duo for crafting a "taut, tense, and twisted" narrative that gets under the viewer's skin. Commending the newcomers on their remarkable display of craft, Gotto expressed her pleasure in introducing their talent to the Shudder audience and the broader realm of thriller enthusiasts.

The filmmakers reciprocated the enthusiasm, stating they are "absolutely thrilled" to be a part of the Shudder family. They affirmed their conviction that "You’ll Never Find Me" has found its ultimate destination among the "strange, spooky and sinister" array of films that grace Shudder’s library. They anticipate triggering shivers down the spines of American and UK audiences when the film debuts next year.

The acquisition of "You’ll Never Find Me" is undoubtedly a feather in Shudder's cap as it joins other titles at the Fantastic Fest running from September 21-28, in Austin, TX. This includes films such as "Infested", "The Sacrifice Game", "V/H/S/85", and "When Evil Lurks". The negotiation of this acquisition was stewarded by Mike Chapman of Blue Finch on behalf of the filmmakers and Emily Gotto representing Shudder.

Now onto my two cents.

In these days of abundant horror-thrillers and overused scare tactics, it’s refreshing to see a film that dares to skin crawl its way back to the psychological roots of the genre. Allen and Bell have crafted a narrative that uses its bleak setting and stormy backdrop to mirror the tumultuous inner landscapes of its principal characters. A caravan park has never seemed so ominous, has it?

Brendan Rock and Jordan Cowan are set to play a game of cat and mouse that toys with the limits of suspense and defies our perception of who, or perhaps what, should be feared. An isolated man and a desperate woman, a savage storm - sounds like the perfect recipe for a nightmare, doesn't it?

And speaking of nightmares, we can expect nothing less than the best from Shudder, the dark horse of streaming platforms. Shudder, much like a relentless actor in a horror movie, excels at surprising and horrifying its audience in equal measures. To put it in Halloween terms, every film it 'snaps' up is a trick or treat waiting to be unwrapped in the spectacle of the small screen.

So, here's to more sleepless nights and spine-tingling chills courtesy of Shudder. And, a word of advice for when "You’ll Never Find Me" storms onto your screens - keep the lights on. You've been warned.
