Top 5 Z Horror Movies You Should Watch

Addison Smith

A zombie film is any movie that features zombies as an overarching theme or setting. Zombies can be part of the plot, used for comedic effect, or they may make an appearance as a monster character. Zombie films are usually categorized as horror movies since they often include themes such as death, fear, and/or gore.

Many people associate the word “zombie” with The Walking Dead but this show does not feature every type of zombie you will find in other works. These new undead creatures have been scientifically modified to survive and thrive after being buried under layers of dirt and debris for years.

Zombies have become very popular recently due to their overabundance in media and entertainment. There are many different types of zombies out there! It is hard to describe how much creativity these filmmakers have when it comes to creating new varieties of zombies.

This article will discuss some interesting trivia about zombie movies, what makes a good zombie flick, and my top 5 favorite zombie flicks.

The Strain

In the story, an epidemic of monstrous births ravages New York City with even more gruesome consequences than before. A team is assembled to investigate this new disease that seems to be spreading via vampire bites and blood transfusions.

The movie begins by setting up some context for the audience. We are introduced to several characters as they prepare themselves to go into battle against something very deadly.

We then meet Dr. Erskine (played by Bill Irwin) who has just been appointed head of the special investigation unit looking into these outbreaks. He does not look like he enjoys his position too much.

He meets with his assistant, Special Agent Todd Packer (Nestor Carbonell), and medical researcher Nora Martinez (Florencia Lozano). They all agree that it makes sense to work together to find out what is causing these monster babies.

They also discuss how maybe there is another living being responsible for creating these monsters. This creature could be human or non-human. After all, we have seen vampires, werewolves, and aliens in horror movies before so why not zombies?

Dr. Erskine decides to send agents undercover at two different hospitals where more outbreak reports come from. At each location, one agent will pretend to do blood tests while the other pretends to give a blood transfusion.

At both sites, the doctor performing the test finds nothing wrong and the fake blood transfused looks normal.

The Midnight Sun

In The Midnight Sun, director Daniel Cerone creates an intense atmosphere that leaves you feeling emotionally drained. An element of suspense is always present in this film as things slowly build up towards a terrifying conclusion. There are several key scenes within the movie that have been singled out by critics to show off the depth of the story and emotion conveyed through the film.

A pivotal scene happens around half way into the movie when Elijah Dreno (played by Mark Proctor) attempts to drown himself in his apartment pool. He fails to fully submerge himself under water so only his head goes down while his arms remain extended above the surface. This setting seems natural for someone trying to give up at life.

However, there’s one small problem - he isn’t actually drowning! He is breathing underwater which makes it seem like he may be alive. After a few moments, he breaks the surface with a big gasp of air and smiles contentedly before sinking back down again.

This little moment helps convey the idea that even if your dreams don’t come true, you can still enjoy the ones you do have. It also shows how people will sometimes keep yourself afloat just to prove they aren’t completely worthless.

An important part of the movie deals with depression and suicide so this shot really highlights that message.

One of the most popular sub-genres in horror is that of the “zombie” film. Zombies have been featured in various forms in many different stories, settings, and periods, but they all share one thing in common: zombies are very hungry.

Zombies come in several varieties. Some seem to slowly crawl around before attacking, while others bounce quickly across the ground before collapsing onto their stomachs. Some even climb stairs!

Their appetite for human flesh varies as well. Some will nibble small chunks, whereas others eat large hunks. What kind of zombie you want to see determined by which type of movie you want to watch!

A few special types of zombies get additional attention due to their unique physiology. For example, some can reanimate corpses into undead slaves or weapons. Others are able to manipulate magnetic fields, allowing them to pull metal objects out of refrigerators and use those instead of hands.

Whatever kind of zombie you choose to feature, make sure to give and take appropriate amounts of damage during close encounters.

The Predator

Many consider this movie to be one of the greatest ever made. It features some incredible sets, great acting, and overall suspense that never stops. There is even an iconic moment in the film where the main character says something that has become famous. He calls it: ‘I will see you next summer’ which many say refers to their own lives after watching the movie.

The story follows five expertly selected soldiers who are dropped into a remote location for a special mission. On the way there they stop at what looks like just another empty building but once they enter, they discover it is actually an alien ship.

These aliens have been hiding here since before humans walked the planet and now they want to feed. In fact, they have always wanted to eat human flesh and when they do, it gives them immense pleasure. This makes it very difficult to stay alive because these ships are full of hungry predators waiting to ambush their prey.

There is also a second goal for the crew members while they are still able to survive - to escape as far away from the ship as possible. If anyone does not achieve this then the predator learns how to hunt using tools instead of raw meat and then it is up to them to find safety with the rest of the survivors.

This article will go more in depth about why this movie is so interesting and worth your time if you are interested in learning more about horror movies.

The Cabin in the Woods

While not as well known as some of the other horror sub-genres, there have been many great zen stories told through the genre of horror that focus on an area or space rather than a specific story. These are sometimes referred to as “area” movies because they use setting and tone to tell their stories.

The most famous example of this is arguably The Shining, where none of the characters understand what is going on until it is too late. More recently, the same concept was used in Steven Spielberg’s movie The Haunted Mansion, with guests at a party experiencing strange occurrences around the house.

Another popular example would be Jodorowsky's El Topo, a film about a man who enters a mysterious cave after being tricked into doing so. What he finds inside changes his perception of reality.

These types of films create interesting questions about faith, spirituality and our place in the universe. They also often make for very frightening experiences due to how unexpected and unexplained much of the movie can be.

Z for Zachariah

In The House of the Devil, an upcoming horror movie that is set to be released in September 2019, there is a scene where a young boy sneaks into his parents’ bedroom at night. He finds his father sleeping next to his mother and snuggling with her. As he looks closer, he notices something weird about their clothes: His parents are naked!

As he stares in shock, his mom grabs him and tells him it was just a dream. She then puts on some pajamas and covers herself up before tucking his bed in properly. After all, he already saw his parents completely nude!

This whole situation may seem ridiculous, but this actually happened in real life! Many people have made fake “dreams” or faked “neatly done beds” to induce nightmares in others. This is sometimes referred to as sleep paralysis syndrome, and it can seriously affect someone’s daily life.

It’s not uncommon for someone who experiences this condition to wake up screaming or muttering incoherent things. Some say they feel like their body is being possessed or controlled and they struggle to get out of bed. Others report feeling like their arms or legs are stuck or weights are attached to them.

These experiences usually last only a few minutes, but can go on for hours depending on how much sleep the person gets during this time frame.
