Twilight Stars Lutz and Gigandet Reunite in Crime-Thriller 'Desert Dawn'

A. Prentice

Twilight alumni, Kellan Lutz and Cam Gigandet are set to reunite on screen in the action crime-thriller, Desert Dawn. The film will feature Lutz and Gigandet, who formerly played nemesis in the Twilight saga, as a newly appointed sheriff and his reluctant deputy respectively. They find themselves embroiled in a twisted tale of lies and corruption, featuring shady businessmen and the cartel, while investigating the murder of a mysterious woman. The film is a product of the Los Angeles-based Premiere Entertainment Group and started shooting this week in Nevada.

The filming is sanctioned by a SAG-AFTRA interim agreement, given the ongoing union strikes. Behind the project, Marty Murray of Paranormal Island fame is directing the movie with the screenplay penned by Chad Law and Johnny Walters. Producing the film is Elias Axume from Premiere along with Al Bravo of Al Bravo Films. In the executive producers' shoes are Jason Abustan, Mehrab H. Deboo, and Carlos Rincon, with additional leadership from Matthew Helderman and Luke Taylor of BondIt Media Capital. Justin Nesbitt, Michael Pizzimenti, and Michelle Wang are named as co-producers. Distribution of the film is handled by Premiere Entertainment.

In Twilight, Lutz and Gigandet played Emmett Cullen and “tracker” vampire James, turning heads with their performances. Lutz has a diverse portfolio, having featured in movies like The Legend of Hercules, The Expendables 3, and Immortals. Equally, Gigandet has graced the silver screen in films such as Never Back Down, Burlesque, Priest, and The Magnificent Seven.

Lutz is currently managed by the Zero Gravity Management and Innovative Artists along with Jeff Endlich, while Gigandet is managed by Independent Artist Group, Luber Roklin Entertainment, and Vybe Trybe.

Ah, the magic of reunion - it's like the cinematic equivalent of chicken soup, isn't it? The last time we saw Kellan Lutz and Cam Gigandet together was in Twilight, where they were far from being bosom buddies. And now, they'll be striding side-by-side as law enforcement colleagues. It's charming in a way that only Hollywood can pull off.

Given their cinematic history, there’s an inherent curiosity about how Lutz and Gigandet will channel their professional chemistry into their new roles. Going from clashing vampires to lawmen navigating the treacherous path of corruption - talk about a serious gear shift.

New directorial and production entries add to the appeal of this project. Marty Murray's turn in Paranormal Island suggests he can handle the suspense and thrills that this kind of genre requires. Ethereal islands to dusty deserts, quite the leap for him, wouldn't you agree? As for the screenplay by Chad Law and Johnny Walters, we're certainly prepared for some sharp dialogues, and hopefully, unexpected plot twists.

Casting, crew aside, the film's subject matter holds a mirror up to a society grappling with deceit and corruption. Not necessarily a new story in tinsel town, but the charm lies in execution. And with the Twilight buddies navigating this rocky terrain, we can only hope of a potboiler in the making.

Remember, in Hollywood, it's all about the journey, not just stars' reunion. Whether Desert Dawn will take us for a wild ride or leave us in the shade remains to be seen. For now, we're buckled in and ready to go.
