As we grow older, it becomes more difficult to find things that appeal to you - whether they are songs, movies, books, or anything else.
As we become increasingly focused on our jobs and family commitments, we tend to ignore most forms of entertainment at least once in a while.

It is very common for people over 30 to feel like there is not much left to watch or listen to that has meaning. Many times, it can feel like everything is too serious or smarted-up for an entertaining night’s viewing or listening.

Many young people enjoy less sophisticated media, so why should you? There are many great reasons to explore new types of videos, stories, and music. They will inspire you, challenge you, teach you something, and maybe even make you laugh.

This article will discuss some of the benefits of video entertainment for your well being.

What is a TV show?

A television show is a piece of entertainment content that comes in the form of an episodic narrative. Episodic means “separated into individual units” or “divided into separate episodes.”

A narrative is just telling a story, so a TV show with an episodic structure is like having a story told to you, line by line, episode by episode.

The term for this type of storytelling is serialized fiction - which is why most people refer to a show as a series instead of a movie. (We’ll get more specific about what makes up a season later.)

But before we get too graphic, let us define the difference between a film and a TV show.

A short movie is one minute long (1 min 30 sec = 1 min) and usually revolves around one event or theme. A feature length movie can be under 2 hours or over 2 hours.

A TV show is always longer than a movie and does not have a limit set on how long it can be. This is because they are typically self-contained stories that build upon each other sequentially.

However, there is sometimes a break or transition within a given scene or sequence that will lead onto another scene or sequence without much of a link. These are called segues and they connect two different parts of the show together.

Segments are shorter than full episodes but still hold their own storyline and plot.

What are cinemas?

The term ‘cinema’ has evolved over time. In its earliest forms, it referred to a room with attached projection equipment where people could watch silent movies. These rooms were called movie theaters or amphitheaters.

In the early twentieth century, film became popular and people wanted to show off what they knew - so the next evolution of cinema was the theater.

Theater-style spaces that showed films were now the norm. Due to technology, there is no difference between one type of cinema and the other. They all have similar amenities and features.

However, not everyone loves the way these movie theatres look. Some feel that they are too big or overdone. Others dislike the expensive price tags for tickets and snacks!

So how do we define the term “movie theatre” then? Many refer to them as just “theatre” because they believe that word implies more than just watching a movie.

Some even say that using the word ‘theatre’ makes you sound pretentious and/or out of touch.

What are theatres?

Theatre is an interesting word. It comes from the Ancient Greek word for theatre, which was dramaticon. This changed slightly in the English language to depict or describe something as dramatic.

The term “theatre” now also includes things like concerts, sports events, and more recently, movie screenings. All of these use the word “screening” because they are showing the event on a screen instead of using speaker equipment or radio broadcast signals.

Thinking about it this way makes sense since we already have technology that can show us movies! So why not make it free so everyone has access to them? Plus, watching a movie does not require very much space or location anymore. You can do it while lying down, sitting, or even walking around if you have a device with you.

The reason people still go out to the cinema is due to the social element attached to it. People usually meet at the mall, get snacks, drinks, and sometimes even bring along friends or family. It is definitely a gathering place where people want to be seen.

Nowadays though, many people stay home and watch TV shows or films online. There are even some devices that let you connect directly to your television set and stream content straight away! If you know what tools and services exist, then you should try one out.

But staying at home alone isn’t quite as fun.

What are TV sets?

Many people these days have their television set up in such a way that it does not include cable or satellite as an option. A lot of households still rely on televisions to be their main form of entertainment, however.

Televisions were originally designed to be used for watching programs, but they have since morphed into devices that do more than just give you access to content. Technology has allowed TVs to play games, offer online shopping experiences, and even connect with other devices to take over those functions!

Many refer to this type of device as a “smart” TV because it can perform additional tasks.

There is no universal definition of what constitutes a video game, but one thing is clear - most consider anything played on a screen to be a video game.

With this being said, many experts agree that there is some kind of disconnect happening when someone watches TV for extended periods. They claim that all too often people are getting less motivated by what they watch and then having trouble finding ways to fill the void left behind.

What are videos?

A video is a movie or series of events that are typically filmed with a camera. These films can be short (less than a minute long) or longer (up to around 10 minutes).

Videos can be made and distributed in many different ways, but most commonly they are uploaded onto websites or apps via smartphone cameras or external recording devices such as GoPro cameras.

The length of a film depends on what it is intended for. If it’s for entertainment purposes then there’s no rule saying you can’t let someone else do the work!

However, if the film will be seen by an audience then it needs to have some kind of story, characters and/or action to make it interesting. This is where lengths become important - shorter films take less time to create, so they are more common for entertainment purposes.

Intermediate videos are popular because people enjoy watching them, they earn good money and everyone has access to a computer and a phone which both have enough memory to play back files. Some even say that we live in a digital age, making it easy to produce and distribute media. All this adds up to not only a rise in popularity, but also exposure for artists and creatives.

What about voice-overs?

A lot of times, instead of hearing music while a video is being watched, there’s just a narrator talking.

What does the term video game mean?

A video game is an interactive media, typically comprised of two parts: gameplay and graphics/sound. Graphics include things like characters, environments, and scenarios. Sound includes music or dialogue.

Gameplay comes in several forms depending on what type of game you are playing. For example, if you are playing as a character in a open-world environment where you can explore at your leisure, then this is referred to as action games because you have moving scenes with different storylines. If you are given limited options for exploring the world, then these types of games are called adventure games due to their narrative storyline. Games that require you to use skills towards solving puzzles are categorized as puzzle games. Lastly, fighting games involve going head to head with other players or computer controlled opponents.

The most well known form of gaming is probably shooter games. These games feature large landscapes, many different enemies, and frequent gunfire. While some may consider them violent, they are designed around creating an immersive experience where the gamer feels involved. The reason why people enjoy shooters so much is because there are very few instances where something unexpected happens.

Another common element of videogames is collecting items. This could be anything from picking up coins for levels, to finding weapons and gear in RPGs. Another one is leveling up through acquiring skill points which enhance certain attributes such as strength, dexterity, etc.

What does the term film mean?

The word ‘film’ comes from the French language, where it means'moving picture'. In England, the term was shortened to movie and eventually morphed into what we know today as the popularly used term film.

Prior to the 1920s, pictures were very expensive and few people could afford them. For this reason, most people didn't have access to moving images, only still photographs.

It wasn't until Thomas Edison invented the photographic process in 1852 that creating motion pictures became possible for the average person. He called his new invention kinetoscopes or movement picture-making machines.

These early moviemakers had to develop their own ways of capturing and editing footage, though.

What does the term television mean?

The word ‘television’ comes from the Latin televisum, which means view or sight. In earlier times, people used vision to communicate with God so it makes sense that we would use this tool to connect with each other!

The first working TV set was built in 1895 by Karl Braun of Germany. He connected two metal electrodes to batteries and tuned into a radio broadcast by mistake. After realizing what he had done, he called himself a broadcaster and began charging money for others to make similar mistakes. His invention became popular quickly and is now an integral part of our daily lives.

We have made watching broadcasts a habit, which has influenced how socialize society becomes. People spend most of their time sitting down while being exposed to media all the time. This influence is very powerful as we know well how marketing works.

Televisions are sometimes criticized for encouraging mindless entertainment. But I believe they play an important role in our culture. They teach us about different genres, styles, and concepts of storytelling.
