Why You Can't Go To The Hollywood Sign

The new barriers blocking the south face of the sign were put in place last year, and were designed to stop people from scaling or climbing to the top of the sign.

These new barriers will stay in place until next year, according to USA Today.

The barrier is about eight feet high, and if you plan to climb, you should not go on a day when there's high wind, and try not to go when it is raining.

An unnamed City Council member was upset by the barrier, saying that those who want to get up the sign should be able to do so in peace and safety.

"Why are they insisting on closing the entire south face of the sign to make this happen? I would like to see them consider alternatives," the council member said.

And there's a gap between the new barrier and the ground at certain angles.

The official reason for the barricade is that tourists are often injured by falling rocks, but some people believe that it's part of the government's attempt to eliminate the number of visitors to the sign.

They point to the fact that a long time ago there were actually many more security guards protecting the sign, and in the 1950s and 1960s, over 200,000 people came to visit on a daily basis, according to City News Service.

The daily count has dwindled significantly to about 7,500 people now.

There are still ways to see the iconic sign. The Griffith Observatory has a pass that lets people visit the sign and some other famous Hollywood sites, and the website Hxtv.com has a map of where all the iconic locations are located in the city.

I recently discovered that it is illegal to climb the sign and I'm upset.

Who thinks that climbing a sign is fun?

For those who like to go up to the sign and hang out with one's own community, one has to pay to do so. An 'impact fee' of $25 or more will be charged at each entrance to the area.

There's also a road to the top of the sign, which is called Telescope Drive, but you can only use that road in June, July and August.

"The Hollywood sign is owned by the City of Los Angeles, and it's up to them to decide who's allowed to access that sign and who's not allowed to access it," Angelica Rojas, Director of Business Affairs for the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, said, according to CNN.

The Hollywood Sign was a gift from the Hollywood land developers to Los Angeles in 1923. The signature was added later.

The sign, as well as all of the other Hollywood attractions, can be taken care of if we look around at the other ways to travel.

Why you can't go

First of all, the Hollywood sign is public land and anyone can go see it, as long as they have a reason. If they want to, we encourage that. I have gone to the sign many times before.

In fact, I may even have taken a picture of myself there with my friends. Even if people think it's closed, it is public land and is open to everyone.

Other than the fact that you have to go through the guards at the bottom of the hill and go in the right direction, the gates don't even have to be open, you just need to be in the right place and at the right time.

You have to wait for the sun to set. You also have to make sure you have your camera and tripod ready.

You should have to keep in mind that there are other places in the city that are much easier to get to, especially if you're not looking to visit in person and shoot photos.

What to take

If you're taking photos, you should have your camera with you. If you're lucky, you will be able to take photos of the sign without being stopped by the security guards, but it's not likely.

It is important to take plenty of batteries. Sometimes the batteries die in the car if it is close to the big city.

What to bring

You'll need the following:

Camera: If you are shooting in your phone, you won't be able to zoom in as much.

Go for a larger DSLR camera or even a point and shoot camera. You should be able to get a close up photo or two. It is the best camera you can have.

Camera Lens: A telephoto lens or a macro lens will be best. Be careful that you are not breaking the sign by going too close.

A camera lens will allow you to zoom in far enough to get the sign in the background.

Computer: It's easier to edit and make the photo look good on a computer than it is in the back of your car on the freeway.

A tripod: This is what will help you to be able to make the photo look good. When you are trying to take a picture of the sign, the sun is hitting the sign.

If you have a tripod, you can make sure that the camera doesn't move.

A Walkie Talkie or other way to get in touch with security guards: You may want to have something in case security stops you and tells you that you can't go there.

If you can't go, then you don't have to stop, but if you can, you should have a way to communicate with security guards.

A smartphone: If the security guards don't let you see the sign, and you don't have a tripod, then a smartphone will work.

When you get close, you can get a good photo of the sign. This is another reason that you should have plenty of batteries and use the USB charger.
