Zima, Nam Begin Production on 'Love Is the Monster' Amid Finnish Mythology Intrigue
Madeline Zima, recognizable from her performance in Californication, along with Westworld's Leonardo Nam, have ventured into the thrill of production on their new project Love Is the Monster in Canada. The film, directed by the visionary Alex Noyer, known for his work on Sound of Violence, has secured a SAG-AFTRA Interim Agreement. Furthermore, the cast bouquet is more comprehensive with familiar faces like Moe Jeudy-Lamour from Ted Lasso, Kimberly-Sue Murray of Trader fame, Kristina Tonteri-Young from Warrior Nun, Milla Puolakanaho of Omerta, Tatu Sinisalo represented by Sisu, and Sheila Mccarthy renowned for Women Talking.
Love Is the Monster, an intriguing storyline conceived by Noyer in collaboration with Hannu Aukia and Blair Bathory, follows a couple navigating turbulence due to infidelity. The protagonists, Zima's Ana and Nam's Justin, find themselves at an exclusive couples retreat in the heart of Finland enveloped by the summer's midnight sun. The serene milieu is amplified by the presence of couples from around the globe seeking transformation under the tutelage of shaman and healer, Tiina, who derives her teachings from Lempo, the ancient Finnish goddess of love and fertility. However, the tranquil ambiance eventually takes an unexpected spin.
Noyer's follow-up to his acclaimed horror-thriller Sound of Violence is heavily influenced by Finnic mythology. The film’s production members include respected names like Laurence Gendron and Hannu Aukia. On another exciting note, the North American rights are held by XYZ Films, who are making plans to launch sales at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). The event will also witness the premiere of Atom Egoyan's Seven Veils, featuring Amanda Seyfried.
Now shifting gears from the facts to my take on this news...
Oh, isn't it a Nordic delight? I must say Noyer has picked some of the most intriguing aspects of his native Finland’s mythology, and the mixture of drama and suspense is alluring. Think about it; midsummer retreat, shamanic rituals, innocent couples, and a touch of infidelity. It smells like a recipe for an engaging Nordic mystery to me.
Our lead lady, Zima, who's been sweeping us off our feet from her Californication days, continues to climb the film ladder with roles in Doom Patrol, Hacks, In Treatment, and many indie features, has surely grabbed a juicy part here. Paired with Nam, who graced HBO’s Westworld as park worker Felix Lutz and has his hands full with credits like Star Trek: Lower Decks, Maggie, Marvel’s Werewolf by Night, soon to be followed up by Ava DuVernay’s Origin. These two bring enough charm and talent to draw any audience in.
Not to forget, the film is blessed with a supporting cast whose resumes are as colorful as a double rainbow. It's firsthand proof that we're heading for one hell of an on-screen ensemble.
That does it for my take on this exciting new development. Fasten your seatbelts, folks; the cinematic journey to Finland's tranquil yet suspenseful grounds awaits us. Keep an eye out for Love Is the Monster, and remember, in the midst of the serene Finnish summer may lie the most captivating thriller of the year.
